Muddy eats: Boxpark, Croydon

24 Nov 2016

Apparently, Croydon is more hipster than Shoreditch and Dalston. Or so I keep hearing. I’m yet to be convinced – but there’s no doubting that Croydon has it’s own brand of cool. And it’s certainly on the up.

While CR0 has yet to be overrun by big beards and man buns, but it has recently seen the arrival of Boxpark the pop-up drinking and dining hub based on the same one that was set up in Shoreditch in 2011. And Westfield, whilst a little further away, is also on the horizon.

Muddy eats: Bears at the Packhouse, Farnham

14 Nov 2016

So, you know the feeling. You’ve had your hair done, you’ve been waxed within an inch of your life, you’ve got a new outfit, your skin is dewy, your eyes sparkly, you’ve got your swagger going on. And People. Are. Checking. You. OUT.

We all get a feel good day now and again. But believe me, Bears, the new restaurant at The Packhouse in Runfold has got it going on 24/7 right now.

Muddy eats: The Green Rooms of Godstone

19 Sep 2016

I met a friend for a farewell brunch recently before she upped sticks and moved to the Dorset coast. The lucky thing timed that pretty well, didn’t she? It’s been all ice-cream and sandcastles at the beach since she got there – with possibly a little unpacking as well. Her life is now like one big holiday.

I’m not jealous. Not much! But I’m not here to flicker my green eyes at you.

Muddy eats: Corretto in Godalming

17 Aug 2016

Very excited to tell you about Corretto bar in Godalming. I’m forever on the trail of funky places that do things a little bit differently, and this bar has its cool credentials up in lights. It romped it in as best bar in the Muddy Awards, which probably tells you something right there.

It opened at the end of last October offering coffee by day and cocktails by night, alongside a decent wine list, craft beers and ciders, and some of the best tapas I’ve ever eaten.

Muddy Eats: Dexter Burger bar, Purley

18 Apr 2016

Who doesn’t love a burger, right? We certainly do in the Muddy Surrey house. But I’m also a bit discerning with what I eat. I prefer it when meat has been reared outdoors and grass fed. None of that mass produced meat for my family.

I guess it comes from having grown up on an Aussie beef farm. But, and here’s the thing: like most country girls who escaped to the city before heading back to the shires, I do like my urban chic.

Muddy Eats: The Water’s Edge, Horsell

7 Apr 2016

I’ve had my beady eye on The Water’s Edge at Horsell near Woking since it opened early this year. This new café on the site of Heather Farm, a wetlands centre on Horsell Common, is my idea of heaven. Its specialty is gorgeously simple food, made from organic, locally produced ingredients, served in a relaxed environment with a beautiful view right out the window. Yep. This is definitely one to remember folks.

Day tripper: Chobham

22 Feb 2016

Do you know your Chobham from your Cobham? Be honest. I know I’m not the only one. I confess that until recently, I thought they were one and the same. But then they’re not a million miles apart (12 actually), both demographically and geographically.

But while Cobham has been nicknamed the Beverley Hills of Britain (with more wags, Jags and, er, designer handbags than any other town or village in these Isles), Chobham is, perhaps, her more reserved little sister.

FOUR GO TO PAINSHILL, COBHAM

3 Feb 2016

I recently stumbled across a fabulous place for a day out with the family. How is it, I have not found it sooner? I love a good wander around a garden, as my family know only too well. And when you add a cafe that serves good coffee and cake, you’re on to a sure-fire winner in my book. But as it’s been under my radar, I thought maybe it’d been under yours too.
