MUDDY SURREY MEETS BROOKLANDS RADIO
Who’d have thought that little ole me would be a radio star. Did you hear? This week, I was a guest on the Just Women programme at Brooklands Radio, presented by the lovely Jay Baylis and Doreen Pipe.
Well ok, star might be taking it a little too far, but I did manage a couple of pretty impressive feats, if I do say so myself. Firstly, I got through 20 minutes of live radio without saying a single naughty word. Not one! And second, I went way out of my comfort zone, and y’know what? I survived it.
I might even go as far as to say that I enjoyed it, and that’s in no small measure to the professionalism and downright loveliness of Jay and Doreen. Jay’s a relative newbie to radio, having joined the Just Women team last year. Although she’s got a pretty impressive journalism career in her wake, which includes celebrity interviews with Arnold Schwarzenegger, among others (and now yours truly, obvs!!).
Doreen has been with the station a little longer, joining in 2014 after going on as a guest, and after retiring from a career as fund raiser and before that as general manager of a care home. Here’s Doreen, left, and Jay in the studio.
Brooklands Radio is an online community radio station that airs in northern Surrey, with a catchment of about 400,000 people, and Just Women is one of several regular shows. It features three guests each week – all women talking about anything from kids to work to life.
My fellow guests this week were Jeannette Hyde, a nutritional therapist an author of the best-selling book The Gut Makeover, and Libby Punter, who runs a charity that ships donated clothes and books to families in Trinidad. I got to talk about Muddy. If you missed the show, you can listen here.
‘Just Women’, Tuesday 1pm (repeated Thursday 8pm).
