Culture fix for little kids
No need to trek into London this summer to discover top theatre for little kids - a trio of fab shows for kids aged 4-7 are coming to parks in Surrey. Here's the what, where and when so you can book pronto.
Theatre in the Park is put together by the fab folk at Camberley Theatre and they’re taking place alfresco at three local parks. You’ll be able to buy refreshments at each of the venues, and (don’t worry, we know that little kids can’t always hold on) there are loos on site too. Best not to bring brollies or tents, even if its raining – that’s what raincoats are for. But fingers crossed the sun will be shining and all you’ll need is to slap on some sunscreen and a hat!
THE LOST COLOUR
What: Malcolm Brushell, is a professional painter and amateur alchemist, and he’s made it his mission to find the pinky-est pink paint on the planet! Through cracking rocks, mashing every conceivable vegetable, and even bottling and fermenting his own cow’s wee, he has created every colour imaginable…except for that rascally illusive pink. But he won’t give up! This show is a colourful explosion of puppetry, music and comedy, and the perfect show for families with children aged 5+.
Where: Lightwater Country Park, The Avenue, Lightwater, GU18 5RG
When: Mon 9 Aug, shows at 12noon at 2.30pm
WE ALL WOBBLE
What: A bold and colourful performance celebrating the wobbly-ness of life – because, let’s face it, we all wobble! These two lovable clowns weeble and wobble their way through a chaotic picnic in this life-sized roly poly spectacle, falling hither and thither, but never toppling. It’s full of hilarious slapstick, near misses, and messy chaos for the whole family.
Where: Chobham Recreation Ground, Station Road, Chobham, GU24 8AL
When: Thurs 12 Aug, showings at 12noon at 2.30pm
THE LION INSIDE
What: This show explores some important themes for kids: facing fears; building confidence; feeling positive; dealing with change; celebrating our differences and similarities; and helping children transition back into the world post-lockdown – but it’s fun, creative and playful. It follows the story of Mouse, who lives in a house under a rock. At the top of the rock lives a Lion with the loudest roar of all the pack. Mouse is fed up of being ignored by the other animals, wants more than anything to roar like Lion. He tries and tries to find his roar, but in the end decides the only thing to do is to overcome his fear and ask Lion for help.
