Get the glow
Muddy tries the Elemis Biotec Firm-a-lift Facial that promises to firm and tighten skin - but does it deliver? Ready, steady, glow
The Lauren Elizabeth Boutique is on the Chertsey Road in Woking just a few minutes walk from Woking Station. Your best bet for car parking would be the Victoria Way car park – and the salon is just a few minutes walk.
There’s a glamorous feel to the salon, with odes to some of Hollywood’s most stylish ladies – Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn and Grace Kelly. The furnishings are plush and over-the-top luxurious – thrones with big satin cushions, huge ornate mirrors and decadent light fittings. But, more importantly, the treatment rooms are immaculately clean, toasty and cosy, with treatment beds piled with fluffy towels and cushions perfect for having a cheeky snooze under.
My therapist Clare was friendly, efficient and clearly experienced, with a sixth sense of when I wanted to chat and when I wanted to drift off under those lovely warm towels and blankets.
The Elemis Biotec Firm-a-lift Facial is one of seven Elemis biotec treatments offered at Lauren Elizabeth – and as someone who’s almost in their (*ahem*) mid-40s it was recommended for its brilliant super-lifting results. The facial promises to firm and tighten your cheeks, neck and jawline, by using plant stem cells and a combination of facial massage and micro current pulses.
My beauty regime is fairly basic – I cleanse and moisturise daily with Liz Earle products, adding the occasional serum to the routine when I have time – so I was keen to see what a turbo-charged salon treatment could do to my sallow, sad winter visage.
Before getting onto the serious business of the facial, Clare did a skin care consultation, noting fine lines around the eye area and my forehead, and recommending an advanced eye treatment and perhaps a change of cleanser.
She then started with a deep cleanse of my skin using two different cleansers, which she followed with an exfoliation to remove the dead skin cells.
After this Clare applied the first infusion of tech – a targeted hydrating and plumping serum massaged on to help re-educate the elasticity in my skin. This has been proven to increase firmness by 95 per cent and elasticity by 100 per cent.
Now it was on to the main part of the facial – a thin face mask of Elemis bio active formulas which are encouraged into the deeper layers of the skin by the galvanic micro-currents that come via the metal probes. And while that might sound like there’s potential for discomfort, you can be assured there’s no pain involved. In fact, timeline may be a bit hazy as I drifted in and out of a slumber – a sign of how surprisingly pampering the treatment is. The final touches were moisturiser and eye cream.
My skin was brighter, smoother and more even-looking, and it felt pleasingly plump and damp at the end of the treatment. My jawline, cheeks and jowls felt more toned. I went the rest of the day without makeup, and woke up the following day with visibly clearer skin. When I applied make up, it blended in beautifully.
My face looked tip-top for a good fortnight too making this is a world away from wafty, pamper-y, pan-pipe-y facials that feel nice at the time but don’t really do much. If I’m going to spare a precious hour to lie down in the middle of the day, I want noticeable results and this totally delivers on that front.
The Elemis Biotec Firm-a-Lift Facial costs £80 for 60 minutes (£45 for 30 mins and £120 for 90 mins) and for best results, a course of 10 is recommended with a treatment every three weeks.
