Five of the best hair masks

Best for: coloured hair

Adored by professional colourists, Opalex’s No.3 Hair Perfector contains whizzy hero ingredient, bis-aminopropyl diglycol dimaleate. That doesn’t exactly trip off the tongue but the important things is that it’s hugely nourishing and reconnects the hair’s structure where torn and brittle. Leave in overnight or use once a week as a pre-wash treatment.

£26 for 100ml

Best for: Afro/curly hair

Created by Stylist magazine beauty writer Loretta De Feo to treat her half Nigerian, half Italian locks, without using harsh chemicals, this deep conditioning mask is enriched with argan oils, babassu oil, coconut and quinoa protein. Leave on for up to 30 minutes for super-hydrated hair with a subtle peppery scent. Extra points for the chic packaging designed by cool illustrator Ted Pearce (of Ted’s Draws).

£22 for 200ml

Best for: heat damage/ split ends

Bali beauty brand Coco & Eve has built up a cult following of Beauty YouTubers and Insta It-girls thanks to it’s pretty packaging and no-nasties formula. And guess what? It actually works too. Designed as a 5-in-1 treatment, the formula locks in moisture, sorts out pesky frizz and split ends, while leaving hair with a heavenly coconut scent. Brush through damp hair and the let the magic happen.

£15.90 for 60ml

Best for: dry hair

From sustainable Italian brand Davines, this mask has a buttery texture infused natural antioxidants jojoba oil (goodbye fly-aways) and cherry oil (hello moisture). Leave on towel dried hair for up to 15 minutes, or for an intense treatment, wrap hair in clingfilm while you have a hot bath (and a large glass of wine obvs).

£23 for 250ml

Best for: being on a budget

For a treatment that’s under a tenner, you can’t go wrong with this 3-in-1 option from Garnier. Use as an everyday conditioner, wash-out mask or let it dry in damp hair to combat split ends. Full marks for the vegan and natural formula, plus it smells like summer holidays with a blend of papaya and alma.

£6.99 for 390ml
