Review: The Luxury Touch
Facialist Cindy King counts Jennifer Lopez among her clients, so it's A-list facials all the way at this treatment room in Godalming
When your beautician lists Jessica Alba, Meg Ryan, Celine Dion and Jennifer Lopez among her clients, you can be sure you’re in safe hands.
And safe hands these certainly are. Cindy King, founder of The Luxury Touch in Godalming, has more than 15 years of experience working in and managing spas at some of the top international 5* hotels around the world including the Ritz Carlton, Mandarin Oriental and the Four Seasons. She’s worked with all the top brands in beauty and knows her products.
I was here to experience the Pevonia Stem Cell Phyto Elite, a bespoke anti-ageing facial (£95/90 mins) that targets the dermis layer and, says Cindy, will produce visible results within five weeks. Cindy is huge fan of Pevonia. The brand uses only natural ingredients, doesn’t test on animals and its products use 8-12 per cent active ingredients. Now, I’m no scientist, but I do know that in the world of beauty products, active ingredients are the bees’ knees.
My facial is nothing short of bliss. Cindy is chatty and super friendly, analysing and assessing my skin and the parts of my lifestyle that may affect my skin. She then gets to work using Pevonia’s Phyto Elite range of products, starting with a thorough cleanse of my face.
After the cleanser is removed, a gel is applied and Cindy uses a steamer to help open pores and allow the gel to really penetrate my skin. The steamer directs a constant but gentle mist of steam towards my face, transporting me to a sizzling beach in the Seychelles.
I’m whisked back to Cindy’s lovely treatment room when the steaming ends the gel is removed, and the skin moisturised. My memory of the exact order of things is a little murky – there was an amazing head massage that sent me dangerously close to passing out, but it may be at this point that Cindy performed the extraction process.
Facialists tend to be firmly in either the pro- or anti-extraction camp. Safe to say Cindy is all for it. “I would never do a facial without extractions,” she says. And it’s true, there is something very satisfying about leaving a treatment room knowing your pores have been purged of all that muck.
The hero of this facial though is the cream that uses a combination of comfrey root and argan stem cells to repair, smooth, hydrate, rejuvenate and protect skin. These are active ingredients working at their best.
The results, still visible a few days later (fresher complexion, smoother and brighter skin) are so impressive that a friend who sees me across the school car park, texts me later to say I look about 25 and ask what had I done.
The treatment room is small but luxurious, all deep plums and chocolatey browns, making me feel like I’m in a lovely cocoon. There are lots of homely touches – mahogany side tables, lamps, ornaments, gorgeous lighting and the thickest, fluffiest towels I’ve ever seen.
Also worth noting, if you suffer from that blotchy redness or you’ve got teens with spotty skin, Cindy specialises in teen facials (£45/60mins) and treats rosacea and broken capillaries (£75/75mins).
Yes, it’s possible you could find a salon offering less expensive treatments, but will they be of this quality? And will your treatments be by the same fair hands that have scrubbed and smoothed La Lopez? I think not people, I think not.
