Review: DermaFrac facial at Luminis Beauty

Want smoother, younger-looking, radiant skin - without resorting to more invasive cosmetic procedures? Hell, yeah! Step forward the DermaFrac Facial at Luminis Beauty Spa in Reigate.

We love a facial here at Muddy! Show me a girl who doesn’t. But not all facials are made the same – ranging from the classic cleanse, exfoliate, mask and moisturise facial to the highly technical involving microdermabrasion, micro-needling and chemical peels to the highly invasive surgical procedures.

Sitting somewhere in the middle is the DermaFrac facial – it’s a results-driven skin rejuvenation process, popular with celebrities because it leaves skin looking refreshed and glowy, but without any blotch-red-faced downtime.

THE BRIEF

Well, we all want smooth, younger-looking and radiant skin, right? And even better if this can be achieved without invasive cosmetic procedures.

The DermaFrac facial promises a healthy and glowing complexion – targeting fine lines and wrinkles, sun damage, scarring and pigmentation. At Luminis, there’s the option to add-on

THE LOWDOWN

I’ve been a regular at Luminis Beauty Spa in Reigate for a few years now, and have the utmost faith in the expertise and experience of the team here. Rehana, my therapist, has a lovely gentle nature that puts you at ease. And even though this isn’t one of those facials where you drift away into a relaxed state of floatiness, you’ll still feel a lovely sense of calm.

The salon itself has been here for seven years, so it’s well-established and beautifully kitted out. There are five treatment rooms – all cosy and dimpsy with plush duvet covers on the treatment tables – plus a separate spray tan station and nail bars. It’s spacious, without being vast, and there’s a distinctly luxe if somewhat boho boutique vibe. Luminis is fun – a bit of tropicana here, and sparkle and elegance there.

Also useful to know, parking is simples – the Bancroft Road multi-story is just a 2 minute walk away across the road and through short alleyway.

THE TREATMENT

The treatment in progress (although this isn’t me!!)

With 40-plus winter-woeful skin to sort, Rehana had her work cut out! But this is a fab facial and the results are instant. For even better results, a course of treatments is recommended.

It’s a three-in-one treatment, that combines crystal-free microdermabrasion, microneedling, and deep tissue serum infusion.

Rehana started the treatment with a double cleanse and de-grease, before starting on the microdermabrasion. This exfoliation treatment gently buffs away the outer layers of skin cells using a crystal-free vacuum. I found this quite pleasant – a light sucking of the skin and not at all uncomfortable. There’s a sense that all the dull nasties are being sucked away, which is oddly satisfying.

Next is the microneedling therapy, where a dermaroller containing the serum is passed over the skin. A light vacuum sucks the skin up to the needles, which allows for the correct needle penetration and at the same time the serum is injected into the skin. It feels a little scratchy, although it’s not at all painful. This serum is brimming with ingredients to revitalise and help your skin absorb all the goodness for a radiant glow.

The treatment includes LED light therapy too. This will soothe your skin, reducing redness, and stimulate the production of collagen. It even helps your skin naturally produce vitamin D. The promise is you will be left with skin that feels soft, smooth, and invigorated.

THE MUDDY VERDICT

This is ‘after’ shot – and while I can’t seem to muster a smile, my skin has a smooth and even glow.

The facial gave my skin a much-needed reboot, after months of neglect. Particularly perfect after the winter months have taken their toll or for 40-plus complexions. My skin felt firmer and had a lovely glow – like I’ve been laying of the booze for a while and getting lots of sleep.

Good for: If you want an instant pick-me-up, this is a great facial. It’ll also target fine lines and wrinkles, light scarring and pigmentation – although a course of regular treatments will be required.

Not for: If you’re after a facial that leaves you feeling all floaty and relaxed, this may not do the trick.

The damage: The DermaFrac treatment is £130 and it takes around an hour. For extra goodness, the DermaFrac Stemcell treatment is £150.
