Review: The CACI non-surgical facelift

Muddy tries the CACI facial toning – the non-invasive alternative to filler and botox that's adored by the A-listers - at the Mayflower Spa in Dorking.

I’ve had many facials – some that take a few years off my dial, and others that simply make my skin glow. I’ve never had a bad one! But now that I’m approaching my vintage years, the desire to hold back the years is strong. So it’s time to call in the big guns – the high-tech CACI Synergy Non-Surgical Facial Toning. Applauded for its dramatic results without the need for surgery or fillers, this CACI facial is a favourite among the A-listers including the Jennifers (Lopez and Aniston), Madonna, Kim Kardashian and Linda Evangelista among others.

If you’ve not yet been to Mayflower Spa in Dorking’s historic old quarter, you’re in for a treat. (And not just because you’ll leave looking and feeling younger!) Parking is easy – St Martin’s Walk car park for long and short stay is a pleasant five minute walk away – and there are some lovely independent restaurants and cafés nearby so you could easily spend a few hours. If you’re partial to a spot of vintage shopping, you might want to allow a little longer – this part of town is also home to many an antiques and vintage interiors store.

so if you’re not a local – should I say Dork? Or Dorker? – you could easily spend the day.

Treatment room at Mayflower Spa, Dorking

The spa is set inside one of Dorking’s most historic buildings, and it’s beautifully turned out to make the most of this gorgeous space. With a soothing colour palette of sea green, rose pink and deep dark blue, it’s like entering a sanctuary – no doubt the intention – and flickering lanterns, fresh flowers and a heady herbal fragrances add to the luxurious ambience.

There’s a large entrance and reception area with plush velvet seating, and beyond that the spa is set out over two levels with five treatment rooms including a double and a relaxation rooms. Lockers are provided in bathrooms, along with fluffy robes and slippers.

It’s like a calming mini spa, and if you’re in the mood for indulgence, you could while away several hours here – a massage in the morning, some time with your favourite magazine in the relaxation room, followed by a facial perhaps?

The CACI Synergy Non-Surgical Facial Toning Facial is a results-driven facial that uses electricity instead of chemicals to lift and tone the face. It’s non-invasive, delivering a low-level zap of micro-currents alongside red and blue LED lighting to stimulate tissue regeneration and help the production of collagen. Basically, the 32 muscles in your face are given a workout by those micro-currents – a good kick up the bum – to tone up and help say bye-bye to fine lines, saggy skin and wrinkles. No needles, nothing invasive, no Botox just a natural (OK electric) boost.

I love it already! But don’t go expecting a soft and lingering facial experience amid the waft of fragrant beauty products. This is a practical facial that’s all about the results.

I’m having the 60 minute CACI Signature Non-Surgical Facial Toning treatment with an additional jowl lift. Trust me, it’s needed!

My therapist is Vicky, The Mayflower’s owner and manager, and after she shows me to the treatment room and gets me settled, we’re straight to business. I’ve come with a bare face, so there’s no make-up to remove.

CACI stands for Computer Aided Cosmetology Instrument, and during my treatment Vicky runs two prongs over my skin to manipulate the muscles, really targeting my jawline, the lines around my eyes and frown lines. It’s not at all painful, nor uncomfortable – more like a deep-tissue massage for the face. It feels like the muscles are getting a workout.

But does it work? The answer is a wholehearted yes! It does. After my treatment, the skin around my jaw line looks and feels firmer, and my eyelids droop a little less. For the best, and long-lasting results – the full wrinkle blasting elixir of youth – though you’ll have to commit to a course of 10-15 treatments over a period of four or five weeks, and then have top-up treatments every couple of months – because the results are cumulative.

That’s not to say a one-off treatment won’t do wonders, and this is why it’s beloved by the A-listers for the pre-party plump and glow. A week after my treatment and my skin was still feeling firm.

The CACI Signature Non-Surgical Facial Toning is £85 for 60 minutes or £130 for 90 minutes.
