Polish and glitter
I'm super excited to tell you about French and Drench, a deluxe mobile nail salon in east Surrey.
I love a manicure and pedicure as much as the next girl. When my nails are done, I always feel finished, even if my hair’s a mess and my face is bare. (And that’s quite often!)
But truth be told, I don’t often make the effort. It’s like the hair and make up, I suppose. I tried to get a pedi before I went on holiday this summer. I really did. But I just couldn’t manage to get an appointment at a time that worked for me.
But I’ve recently discovered French and Drench. And I’m very excited to tell you about them. In fact, I want to shout about French and Drench from the nearest rooftop because, frankly, every girl needs the French and Drench deluxe mobile salon in their life.
Having your fingers and toes done has never been so hassle free – from the simple online booking system, to the moment they knock on your door with the full kit. The French and Drench HQ is Caterham, and they’ll travel an 8 mile radius, so you’re in luck if you’re in Oxted, Lingfield, Reigate, Redhill, Purley, Sanderstead or Croydon. They’ll come further for group bookings.
Things to know
Firstly, aside from being a brilliant manicurist, French and Drench owner, Jo, is a lovely person. I was all over the place when she arrived. So much so, that in my head she was due the following week – and it was clear when I opened the door that I wasn’t expecting her. She handled it (and me) like a pro, and before I knew it she’d set her mobile nail table up and was giving my misproportioned nails some much-needed shaping.
I’d booked the Ultimate Mani/Pedi Package which is pretty much as it sounds: CND Shellac on the fingers and toes, and a luxury spa pedicure. At this juncture, I should tell you that Jo and her team of technicians use only best quality products – CND Shellac which won’t damage your nails. She’ll also leave you with a small bottle of Solar Oil and instructions to apply it twice a day to help look after your nails and cuticles.
The trickiest part of a manicure for me is always the choosing the colour – and it doesn’t get any easier when there are more than 100 colours, plus foils and glitters to choose from (and let’s not forget my scatty brain). I was off to a party a couple of days later, so wanted something with a bit of pizzazz, so went for a a midnight blue overlaid with a lighter shiny blue. It’s quite subtle, but the shiny blue catches in the light.
I was complimented on my nails no less than eight times that same afternoon. Not sure whether it’s incredibly uncool to have two different colours on toes and hands but who flippin cares? For my toes, I chose a champagne coloured glitter – subtle, but sparkly – and while the weather’s been playing against my plans for open-toed shoes, it’s not stopping me donning my stilettos and flashing my sparkly toes at the party.
We moved to my sofa for the pedi, which was a super relaxing place to be. French and Drench takes group bookings – so this would be a great way to have a fab night in with your girly mates. Glitter polish and sparkling wine… it’s a combination that’ll make any girl happy.
My tootsies got the luxury French and Drench treatment, which included callous therapy treatment, dry skin removal, a winter vanilla bath soak (it smelled soooo good), sugar scrub and clay mask, all finished with a foot massage with lotion and oil.
Something happened to my scatty brain during this two-hour treatment, and by the time Jo was packing her kit back into her (very stylish) kit bags I’d become cool, calm and collected. So Jo’s not just brilliant at manis and pedis – but she’ll also leave you feeling de-stressed. I guess this is why they say you should put your feet up.
