Review: Elemis Biotec Radiance Renew facial
Muddy road tests the Elemis Biotec Radiance Renew Facial at Luminis Beauty Spa in Reigate. A mix of high-tech and super relaxing massage, it's brilliant!
My poor mug hasn’t seen much pampering or preening at all in the past 18 months – some DIY at-home treatment attempts, a slathering of serum here, a moisturiser boost there, and the occasional face oil thrown in for good measure. So my skin was quite literally screaming with delight at getting the full facial treatment at Luminis Beauty Spa in Reigate.
You’ll find Luminis Beauty Spa on Church Street in Reigate. It’s a lovely part of town with plenty of independent boutiques, cafés and restaurants nearby including the 2021 Muddy-award winning restaurant Lebnani. It’s worth allowing a bit of time for a mooch about if you can.
Parking is pretty straightforward if you go to the Bancroft Road multi-story, just a 2 minute walk away. Luminis Reigate is one of four in this small family of beauty spas – the others are in Chiswick, Canary Wharf, Blackheath and Jersey. Treatments on offer include Elemis, Murad and Caci facials, massage and reflexology, manis and pedis, spray tanning for your pre-holiday prep, along with waxing, tints and all the usual gubbins for making you feel fab and party-season ready.
The salon has been here for seven years so it’s fairly well established and beautifully kitted out. There are five treatment rooms – all cosy and dimpsy with plush duvet covers on the treatment tables – plus a separate spray tan station and nail bars. It’s spacious, without being vast, and there’s a distinctly luxe if somewhat boho boutique vibe.
It’s a world away from those shiny white minimalist places that can sometimes feel a bit clinical. Luminis is fun – a bit of tropicana here, and sparkle and elegance there.
The staff are lovely – my therapist Rehana is classically beautiful, and she clearly knows her stuff. If you’re looking for a friendly, unpretentious, professional local salon, where the team is highly trained and experienced, this is it. They do the basics here at the top level.
My skin is in desperate need of a pick-me-up – something to bring back the glow and perk it right up. The Luminis team suggest the Elemis Radiance Renew facial featuring an ultrasonic resurfacing peel and galvanic massage technology. It targets tired and sluggish complexions and brightens and evens out skin tones.
Sounds technical and perhaps not terribly relaxing, doesn’t it? But don’t be fooled – this is one of the most divine, drift-off-into-a-semi-slumber facials I’ve ever had. And my skin looked all soft and dewy afterwards too – so I’m a huge fan. Relaxing and radiant results – that’s the double whammy we all want, right?!
The treatment is the usual skin-boosting mix of cleansing, toning, exfoliating, massage and moisturising with the addition of the technologies delivered via the BIOTEC machine. With 27,000 vibrations per second the Ultrasonic Resurfacing draws out impurities in the skin, improves texture and boosts cell renewal. It’s not invasive at all – and feels like a plate is gently scraping the skin.
After the Ultrasonic bit, Rehana applied an amino active peel-off mask and whilst this was working its magic on the impurities in my skin, I was treated to a head and scalp massage. It felt so good and, combined with the gorgeous scents from the products, I drifted off a bit here.
The peel is removed – I also love the feeling of a mask coming off, literally like it’s peeling away all the bad stuff – and a radiance activator is applied followed by a hydra active gel mask. More tech comes into play here with the Glavanic Massage rollers which draw out impurities, while also pushing the hydrating serum into the deeper layers of my skin.
After this is removed, the radiance activator is applied again, followed by the Elemis pro collagen eye cream, a neck and décolletage balm, Biotec day cream and day defence cream which as an SPF – and I was done!
I felt super relaxed, but even better my skin looked pretty damn glowy and plumped up.
THE MUDDY VERDICT
Good for: I real skin MOT. Dullness begone and hello to bright dewy skin. It’s the perfect combination of relaxation and results. And there’s no downtime either, you’ll walk (or float) out of salon looking fab.
Not for: Okay, so who doesn’t want bright, glowy skin? No one, right! So this is great for everyone. Although if you’re addicted to microneedling facials, this may not be your thing.
The damage: The Biotech Radiance Renewal Facial costs £100.50 for about an hour.
