We’ve got it nailed

If you love painted nails but never seem to find time to get to a nail bar, you're going to love Surrey-based Vivienne Nails

Hands up if you love having gorgeous shiny colour on your nails. Yup. Me too. Whether it’s a coat of vampy red, a classic French tip or a flash of silver sparkle, when my nails are painted I just feel more put-together, more girly, more like I’ve actually made an effort.

Sadly though, I’m awful at actually going to a salon and getting them done. The last time I had colour applied was when I saw my mum over the Christmas period and we had a girly pamper day out together. *sigh* And now we’re in March, and the gorgeous midnight blue I flashed on my fingers has long since been picked off (yes, I do that too). And while I keep meaning to have them re-done, I just haven’t yet found the time.

I’d paint them myself at home, but frankly I can’t be arsed with touching it up every day when they start to chip. And mine always chip.

Imagine my delight then, to stumble upon Vivienne Nails London, a Surrey-based company that offers a boutique experience, at home. Vivienne Nails supply everything you need to do your own nails professionally at home, including tools, gel polishes and LED and UV lamps, gel-effect polish and regular nail polish. There’s a choice of starter sets, to get you started, and more colour-choice than you can shake a manicured fingernail at.

Vivienne Nails is the brainchild of Sabena Malik from Weybridge, who having lived in Germany for 20 years, was inspired by an Austrian-based company called Juliana Nails.

Everything is available online, including free tutorials. Applying nail varnish is not rocket science, as Sabena says, and there’s no reason why women cannot have long-lasting and chip-resistant nail colour without the hassle of going to a salon. Amen to that, I say.

Sabena sources her nail products from all over the world, although most come from the United States because, she says, they are of the highest quality. All products are then sent to Europe where they are tested to comply with European Standards.

A gel polish starter set with a Promed UV lamp is a very reasonable £105. You’ll also get a primer, a gel polish 2in1 base and finish, gel polish remover, a box of lint-free swabs, gel cleaner, buffer, nail file and nail scrubber. Each bottle of gel polish is £16.99.
