Wouldn’t you though?

untitledI’ve discovered the latest must-have fashion piece and it’s also high on eco credentials too: fish leather! OhCod, you’re gonna love this…

Yes, you read that right. Fish skin, fish leather – call it what you will – fashion brand, Rose & Willard, can’t get enough of it. And it looks so stylish and distinct it’s created quite a stir in the fashion world. I’m totally soled (sorry, can’t help myself), but before I keep carping on (this is too much fun), take a look and judge for yourself.

It has a similar appearance to snake skin and no, doesn’t smell unpleasant or ‘fishy’ at all (although up close, as with hide leather it might have a slight leather aroma). I spoke to Rose & Willard Founder, Heidy Rehman, who explained how her slick range of women’s wear, also fights the war on waste: ‘Our supplier sources skins that are exclusively a by-product of the food industry. The skins we are using would basically otherwise just be thrown away.’ As a huge fan of thriftiness and as well as an admirer of innovation I love that Heidy has created something so funky and cool while putting to good use something that for decades has just been chucked away. Fish leather_Fotor_CollageThe material is supple and durable and although the salmon leather is not machine washable it is hand washable (where it features in suits the advice is to dry clean). No wonder sales are going so swimmingly. Speaking of which there’s a Half Price Sale happening right now ahead of a big restyling of our their website. So if you’re looking for a new uber stylish, statement piece you could snapper up this Neilla Fish Leather Panel Skirt, above, for £110 (was £225) or Rodor Salmon Leather Pocket Detail Jacket, also above, for £175 (was £350). That’s a whopping 50 per cent off – making it affordable to look bang on trend and save the planet. Don’t be koi, what are you waiting for? *groan*
