Back to Christmas

A Tunsgate Quarter Christmas

This year, we're officially going all out for Christmas - and there's no such thing as too early to feel festive in our book. With that in mind, here are six reasons why you should be at Tunsgate Quarter in Guildford in November and December with (jingle) bells on. Grinches need not apply...

1. Tunsgate Quarter’s Twinkle: A Christmas Spectacular

What: Nothing gets you in the mood for Christmas quite like an enormous Christmas tree, twinkling lights and festive songs. This year, Tunsgate Quarter is getting the festive party started with a Christmas light switch on, merry music, mince pies and mulled wine. Guildford Rock Choir will open the event with performances in Tunsgate Street and the High Street. Songbird, a Guildford jazz, soul, pop and blues duo will also perform and there will appearances by the cast of Dick Whittington, Yvonne Arnaud Theatre’s 2021 panto including Eagle Radio presenter and resident panto dame, Peter Gordon. Not to be left out, the Rocky Horror Show cast who bring their vibey show to G Live in December, will also be there… and as you’d expect the big man in the red suit will also make an appearance and at 5.30pm turn on the lights on the imposing six-metre tall tree. For kids, there will be arts and crafts and a tombola as well as a couple of special guests. All money raised at the event will go towards Guildford’s Fountain Centre which supports cancer patients and their families.

When: Thurs 18 Nov, from 4pm to 6pm.

2. Make a Christmas Wreath

What: Guildford florist Mollie May is hosting Christmas wreath workshops, which includes a gin tasting by Wessex Distillery in Godalming, and refreshments. The first two sessions are fully booked – but watch this space for more dates.

When: Thurs 25 Nov and Thurs 2 Dec.

3. A spot of early shopping

Whip out the Christmas list and get your pressies ticked off early! Forget mindlessly scrolling through the Amazon app, and instead treat your nearest and dearest to a gift from one of the gorgeous retailers in the centre, be it fashion (we love the PJs at The White Company, and the knits at Sea Salt), cosmetics (hello Bobbi Brown advent calendar) homeware (Design Vintage, Loaf and Oka have you covered) or bespoke art (head to Soho Fine Art). The tricky part? Not blowing the budget on goodies for yourself.

When: Now people. Don’t waste a second.

4. Christmas cocktails

Christmas and cocktails are like Santa and Mrs Claus – they just belong together! And this year we’re going all out starting with a festive brunch at The Cosy Club available from 24 Nov until Christmas eve. It’s from 10-11.30am and you can order any brunch from the menu and get unlimited drinks – Prosecco, Mimosa, Bloody Mary, Virgin Mary, tea and coffee or soft drinks – all for £35.

Then when the sun goes down and the Guildford Castle lights go on, we’re heading to The Ivy Brasserie Castle View for cocktails. Make mine a Surrey Passion – fresh passion fruit shaken with vanilla-infused Wyborowa Vodka,
finished with flaming overproof rum in a passion fruit shell. Don’t mind if I do!

When: The Cosy Club brunch is available from 24 Nov – 24 Dec, 10am-11.30am. Cocktails are served all day, every day at The Ivy Castle View.

5. Win prizes during the 12 Days of Christmas

Dinner for four people at Pho one of the 12 prizes in the 12 Days of Christmas giveaway.

12 days of Christmas – 12 prizes up for grabs. Join in the popular Tunsgate Quarter Christmas competition via Instagram and Facebook. All you have to do is post a selfie next to the Tunsgate Quarter Christmas Tree on Facebook on Instagram using the hashtag #ChristmasAtTQ. Prizes include a pair of Ray-Ban sunglasses from David Clulow, a £150 meal for two at The Ivy Brasserie, a salad bowl from Loaf, White Company goodies, Bobbi Brown makeover, a meal for four at Pho and more.

When: Wed 1 to Sun 12 Dec.

6. Christmas Market

And just when you thought things couldn’t get any better, they only went and got better. From Wed 15 to Sun 19 December, Tunsgate Quarter will also host a Christmas market featuring a variety of stalls from local artisan makers and producers. Expect to find gorgeous original gifts like handmade candles, leather accessories, jewellery, Christmas table centrepieces and artisan gin. The market will be on the mezzanine level at the Tunsgate Street entrance.

When: Wed 15 to Sun 19 Dec.
