Ice ice baby! Where to skate in Surrey & beyond

Pop-up ice rinks are back, adding a touch of romance to the cold. Here’s where you’ll find them in the Surrey and beyond.

The perfect festive day out for us features some Christmas shopping, a pub dinner by an open fire, mulled wine and a bit of ice skating! Here is our round up of pop up ice rinks in the south to get booked into your calendar.

Natural History Museum Ice Rink
■ South Kensington, London ■  Open until Sun 16 Jan

Hampton Court Palace
■ East Moseley ■  Sat 13 Nov – Sun 9 Jan

Fancy skating in Henry VIII’s old back garden? This open air ice rink is surrounded by spectacular views of the historic Tudor palace. Don’t forget to pre-book your children’s skate aids!

Worthing Ice Rink
■ Steyne Gardens, Worthing ■  Sat 13 Nov – Sun 27 Feb

We love that this one is on well beyond Christmas for a prolonged but of winter fun! Situated in Steyne Gardens, all ages over four years are welcome to skate whatever your level of ability. Warm up in the coffee shop afterwards, too.

Skate at Somerset House with Moet & Chandon
■ Central London ■  Wed 17 Nov – Sun 16 Jan

Skate in one of London’s most famous settings as Somerset House partners with Moet & Chandon for their festive rink. Skate around the 40ft Christmas tree to contemporary music, shop the perfect gift selection from Hotel Chocolat, and fuel up with delicious food and drink.

Bluewater Ice Rink
■ Bluewater Shopping Centre, Kent ■ Thu 18 Nov – Sun 2 Jan

The popular festive ice rink is back and the perfect way to kick off or finish off a day of Christmas shopping! The rink is outside and covered, so skating is on come rain or shine. The rink will be running quiet sessions, party nights and parent and toddler sessions for budding skaters.

Calverley Grounds
■ Tunbridge Wells, Kent ■ Fri 19 Nov – Mon 3 Jan

At Calverley Grounds, there are two ice rinks – the smaller one dedicated to parents and toddlers during the day but by night it is transformed into a Bavarian curling rink! Book online to save £2.

Hyde Park Winter Wonderland
■ Hyde Park, London ■ Fri 19 Nov – Mon 3 Jan

Set under a canopy of twinkly lights and built around the iconic Victorian bandstand, head ice skating at Winter Wonderful from 10am to 10pm everyday. Each session lasts 50 minute and pre booking is highly recommended.

Windsor on Ice
■ Alexandra Gardens, Windsor ■  Fri 26 Nov – Sun 2 Jan

Back after a year’s hiatus, take a trip to Windsor with the whole family and head out on the ice, hot food and drinks, and funfair rides. Book in for ‘Tiny Tuesdays’ so your under 4s can have a go on the ice too!

Eastbourne’s Light Fibre Ice Rink
■ Eastbourne, East Sussex ■ Wed 1 Dec – Wed 5 Jan

Head down to the south coast for a day by the sea with a side of ice skating! This is the first time the town has had a festive ice rink in a decade. The fully covered ice rink will be situated at the Enterprise Centre, just a short distance from the train station.

Royal Pavilion
■ Brighton ■ Open until Sun 9 Jan

Arguably one of the ice rinks with the best atmosphere, the green energy-powered rink at the Royal Pavilion has a stunning background and even more attractive rinkside bar and kitchen that epitomises cosiness.
