Surrey Gift Guide: For her
Shop local this Christmas with our ultimate gift guide packed with classic, cool and quirky ideas for the lady in your life - all available online from brilliant Surrey businesses.
This gorgeous piece called Lily Pebbles is by Jan Erika a former professional cellist turned artist and designer who lives near Ripley. She’s been touted as an artist and designer to watch – a girl who’s going places, if you will – so it might be worth investing in a piece while you still can. It’s available at Cranleigh-based Belgravia Gallery.
In the pocket
We’re loving this Risso card purse, handmade by Surrey designer Tatum Diamond in her Thames Ditton studio. The purse is cut from leather that is naturally tanned and coloured with sustainable organic vegetable dye, and was also once destined for landfill, so it’s also sustainable. It’s finished with an antique snap clasp.
Who can? Toucan!
A fabulous little stocking filler, this toucan shopping bag folds up into a small pouch so can be easily stowed in a handbag for when it’s needed. Fun fact: it’s made from recycled bottle tops! It’s available from small family-run Surrey business Big Little Bamboo which specialises in eco-friendly products.
If a Christmas outfit is the order of the day, we think this red maxi dress from Newbie fits the bill perfectly. It nails this season’s puffed sleeve trend and comes in sizes from XS to L. And if you like to match the family, the same dress is also available in kids’ sizes. Awww!
Light it up
These luxury scented candles are hand poured in Caterham by a local lady Holly who started the business when she was on maternity leave. She uses natural soy wax and the candles come in a choice of gorgeous natural fragrances including Orange Blossom and Patchouli, Earl Grey and Cucumber, Green Fig and Lillies, and White Jasmine. Love the name Albert & Bear too, named for after Holly’s son Albert and pooch, Bear.
Smooth as silk
A three-in-one luxury designer handbag to take you from day to night – what girl wouldn’t be happy to unwrap this on Christmas morning? It’s stylish, practical, and made from Peta-approved vegan leather. Each one comes with a reversible maxi tote, a crossbody bag and a clutch which can be used as an evening bag or a purse. The Morphbag by GSK is by Surrey-based designer Giovanna Sessi-Knott.
Spice things up
We love a scented candle here at Muddy and almost always have one burning. So we’re thrilled to have found this new artisan candlemaker from Redhill. Candles are vegan and cruelty-free – and there’s a wonderful choice of scents including Winter Spice, Chocolate Orange, Mulled Wine, Salted Caramel and Frankincense & Myrrh for Christmas. They come in four sizes with burn times from nine to 60 hours.

The ultimate gift for the tea lover – a gift set from The Lawn Collection, a boutique tea makers based in Woking. We quite like the sound of Green and Pleasant, a blend of green tea and peppermint, but there’s also Earl Grey, English Breakfast, Classic Chai, Rose Fruit Tea and Rooibos and Rhubarb.

When size matters
Style meets practicality with these super-sized bags designed by two sisters from Surrey. They’re big enough to use as a handy overnighter, or simply for stashing all those things you need for a day out with the family. And handily they come with a smaller cross-body bag.
Forget me knot
A modern twist on a traditional love knot these earrings from Cranleigh and Guildford-based jewellery designers Simon Pure are elegant and stylish. What woman wouldn’t love to unwrap these on Christmas morning. As well as the silver they’re also available in 9ct rose gold and 9ct yellow gold. And if you’re feeling really generous there’s are two matching necklaces, a bangle and a ring.
Burn baby burn
A girl can never have too many luxury candles – and we’re loving the garden-inspired fragrant candles from Wick’d Wax Botanics. They’re handmade in Molesey using natural mineral wax, and as well as the thyme and cedar include scents like pink grapefruit and basil, peony blossom and gardenia groove. There’s also a festive edition, the damn fine single malt. I’ll drink to that!
The artisan Christmas hampers from Secretts of Milford are the ultimate gift for the foodie in your life. There are six different Christmas hampers ranging from the Jingle Bells Hamper for coffee lovers to the top of the range Winter Wonderland Hamper packed with gourmet treats, gin and Champagne.

See a show
It’s been a dreadful year for theatres – and for all of us who love to see shows live on stage. Yvonne Arnaud Theatre in Guildford is offering gift vouchers – redeemable against show tickets for the Main Stage and the Mill Studio and valid up to a year. A great way to support your local theatre, too.
A fragrance for men and women – I’m already a big fan, and it’s not just the name! Described as ‘a seductive fragrance for everyone’, it’s based on the classic chypre style of fragrance – so woody and warming with vetiver oil, base notes of musk, patchouli and Ambergris, alongside geranium and pepper, lime and orange. It comes from a small Warlingham business called Pure Shave.
Take to the water
Gift experiences are a great option for a gift with a difference, and for sporty types Stand-Up Paddleboarding is lots of fun. Instructor Dee Opp offers a range of packages from her riverside studio including some that incorporate SUP yoga as well. We like the idea of couples paddleboarding with yoga, Prosecco and canapés.
