The Clock House, Ripley
Muddy says: This Michelin-starred restaurant is fine dining without the fusty formality, and a brilliant choice for special occasion dining.
This modern, stylish eatery is among Surrey’s few Michelin-starred restaurants. It nails relaxed fine dining; it’s perfect for special occasions but is also a great venue for lunch with the girls.
It was formerly Drakes, and head chef Fred Clapperton has won the restaurant its first Michelin star. It also has three AA Rosettes.
With menus ranging from a great value set lunch, plus a la carte and a seven course tasting menu, focus is on taste, using simple and sometimes unusual flavour combinations, balanced to bring out the best in them. The vegetarian menus are also notable.
The building’s rich history is reflected in its grand Georgian red brickwork and high ceilings of elegant proportions. The interiors are stylish and sophisticated.
The restaurant itself offers one main dining room, a stunning garden terrace and a bar for drinks, plus a cosy intimate dining alcove that’s been stylishly decorated.
