Dastaan Indian Restaurant, Epsom
Muddy says: A top quality Indian restaurant run by two former head chefs at Mayfair’s Michelin-starred Gymkhana serving gourmet signature dishes and classic curries.
Dastaan is not your regular high street curry house – despite it’s nondescript location among a row of terraced shops on the busy Kingston Road in Epsom.
But don’t let it’s unremarkable position sway you, for this is a restaurant that’s been said to serve some of the best Indian food in the country. The Guardian described it as “food of the subcontinent elevated way beyond its uninspiring location – Mayfair cooking at mundane prices”.
It’s run by two former head chefs from Gymkhana in Mayfair – Sanjay Gour, who trained under the acclaimed Angela Hartnett and worked at her London flagship restaurant Murano as well as upscale Indians Tamarind and Zaika and co-owner Nand Kishor who also has some serious culinary pedigree with the Michelin-starred Gymkhana and Trishna on his CV.
Dastaan been awarded a Michelin Bib Gourmand and two AA rosettes.
