The Retreat, Staines-upon-Thames
Muddy says: A stylish neighbourhood pub with a large dining room and quality food – great for a Sunday pub lunch with the family or for an after-work drink with the girls.
Gone are the days when The Retreat was The Anglers’ Retreat – there’s nothing at all fishy about this pub. It’s not even on the river.
It is however a stylish family-friendly pub. It’s recently had a major facelift and the result is a striking mix of old and new, quirky and contemporary, with a mix of Mediterranean and north African influences. It’s a substantial pub, mostly open plan, with zoned dining spaces.
There’s a good choice of food that should keep even your fussiest friends happy – and it’s available all day every day so you won’t be rushed. On Sunday the carvery offers a four-meat roast, served with fresh, buttered greens, Yorkshire puds, roasted root vegetables, roast potatoes & lashings of gravy. It’s brilliant value at only £14.50. There’s also a wood-fired pizza oven.
