The Talbot Inn

Muddy says: This 500-year-old coaching house in the pretty village of Ripley offers ample history and charm with a stylist 21st century twist.

Located in the centre of the pretty Ripley village, this hotel has many a story to tell from its 500-year history. Just 30 minutes from central London, it was once a frequent hitching post for Lord Nelson, and is even said to be where his love affair with Lady Hamilton blossomed. Audrey Hepburn is also said to have been a visitor.

There’s a lot going on at The Talbot – a restaurant, bar, wedding facilities, and rooms – and there’s an interesting juxtaposition between the original building and newer additions.

There’s the bar, which feels a lot like a (stylish) village pub, and another intimate low-beamed room that’s part of this ensemble. And then there’s the dining room – called The Copper Top Restaurant – a more modern, light-filled dining room which leads out to a garden terrace and summer garden. Warm velour furnishings and stylish bookcases create a modern country-house feel in the restaurant

There are 43 rooms at The Talbot, nine rooms are in the Coaching Inn, which is part of the original old building. The rest are in the Ripley Wing which is at the back of the site, behind the terrace and garden. There are 15 deluxe rooms – made up of double, twin and singles.

There’s also a wedding venue, including a small chapel, and conference facilities.
