Nothing says 'I love you' quite like fancy cakes and sweet treats. And while lockdown means we can't take mum out for afternoon tea this Mother's Day, she doesn't have to miss out. Here are 10 teas to order in from Surrey businesses.

Barnett Hill, Wonersh

Treat mum to a decadent afternoon tea courtesy of Barnett Hill Hotel near Guildford. The spread includes finger sandwiches, freshly baked scones including a gorgeous zesty lemon and poppy seed flavour, clotted cream, jam and homemade lemon curd and a selection of cakes and fancies, plus with Hoogly tea to brew at home. Add a bottle (or two) of Nyetimber fizz, which comes in a bright teal tote bag – which is yours (or mum’s!) to keep plus there’s a Utopia Spa candle as an extra gift for mum. Great Fosters, Egham

Spoil mum with an indulgent afternoon tea thanks to the team at Great Fosters in Egham. Tuck into finger sandwiches, freshly made scones and a selection of cakes that includes white chocolate, pistachio & strawberry macarons; lemon, jasmine & yuzu tart; cream & amarena cherry profiterole; chocolate fudge brownie loaf; salted caramel butter cream. It comes with with tea to brew at home, and is packaged in a lovely pink and gold box. If you really want to push the boat out, add a bottle of English sparkling fizz from Nyetimber estate in Sussex as well. McLaren Fine Foods, Weybridge

Who’s for afternoon tea with mum this Mother’s Day. McLaren Fine Foods in Weybridge offer more opteions for tea than you can shake a perfectly home-manicured finger at. Big family? Order in the Luxury Afternoon Tea for six and tuck into freshly baked fruit scones with jam and clotted cream, chocolate brownies, French macaroons, cakes and finger sandwiches. But don’t forget it’s all about mum – so let her choose first! It comes with a selection of teas (English breakfast, green tea, Earl Grey and peppermint) plus a bottle of bubbles. There are also options to order tea for one, two or three, with or without Prosecco, plus gluten free options. The Luxury tea for six is £85, the Luxury tea for one is £14. Nothing says Happy Mother’s Day, quite like the quintessential English afternoon tea. Treat to this this lovely lot from Langhott Manor – cakes, fancies, scones and lighter-than-light finger sandwiches. Little Picnic Company, Addlestone

Fancy an afternoon tea picnic to show mum how much you appreciate her this Mother’s Day? The Little Picnic Company, based in x, has a couple of gorgeous options: The Classic Afternoon Tea Picnic, or if you’re feeling really decadent, the Champagne Afternoon Tea Picnic. There’s a lovely selection of savoury treats – think roast beef finger sandwich with rocket and mustard; fennel, chilli and Gruyere cheese straw; and a spinach, goats cheese, red onion and sun-blushed tomato tart. And for the sweet treats there are cakes, mini desserts, macaroons and scones. YUM! The Champagne version is £85, and the Classic is £45. Order online for delivery right to your door.


Not Just Canapés, Byfleet

This Surrey-based catering company has introduced Afternoon Tea Boxes – offering a mixture of sweet and savoury delights, all homemade and all delicious. Each box includes three finger sandwiches, sausage roll, mini caramelised onion and cheese tarts, a scone with clotted cream and jam, chocolate brownies, an individual Victoria sponge with jam and cream; and lemon drizzle cake. Vegetarian, gluten free and dairy free options are also available. Prices start at £15 per box (plus a delivery charge of £3-5 per order).


Delightful Dining, Sunbury-on-Thames

If your mum is a lover of lemon drizzle cake, this could be the afternoon tea for her! Delightful Dining, a Surrey caterer for weddings, parties and corporate events, is also offering a dine-at-home service. The afternoon tea boxes come with scones, lemon drizzle cake, finger sandwiches and pork and thyme sausage rolls – all all freshly baked to order on the day of delivery. Cost is £20 for one, or £35 for two.


Dotty’s Tea House, Carshalton

Dotty’s Tea House is really pushing the boat out for mum this Mother’s Day – with choices of Breakfast in Bed, Afternoon Tea, Deluxe Cream Tea and Cupcakes. The most indulgent is the Afternoon Tea which comes with sandwiches, cakes, scones (plus jam and clotted cream), shortbread biscuits, lemon posset, rocky road, chocolates and chocolate-dipped strawberries, plus tea. It comes with a Mother’s Day card too, and the option of adding flowers. Cost is £45, order 24 hours in advance for delivery on the day.


The White Hart, Chipstead

The White Hart pub is offering afternoon teas especially for Mother’s Day. Treat mum to a selection of freshly made sandwiches, sausage roll, quiche and for the sweet treats, there’s a sultana scone with jam and clotted cream, glazed lemon tart, chocolate eclair and meringue nest with Chantilly cream and berries. It’s available on Sat 13 March and Sun 14 March for collection between 12noon and 4pm. Order before Sun 7 March. Cost is £14.95 per person.
