Pizza and Prosecco party
Gather your gal pals for an all-you-can-scoff Pizza and Prosecco Brunch at the Rose and Crown Bar in Godalming. Let the fun begin.
Forget the girls’ night out, and the ladies who lunch. Pah – so passé dahling. These days it’s all about the girls’ day out and I reckon the Rose and Crown Bar in Godalming has nailed it with their Bottomless Pizza and Prosecco Brunch. Not an 11am brunch mind – this is more of a mid afternoon soirée. Let the fun begin.
The Rose and Crown is in the middle of Godalming on Mill Lane, just a short stroll from the High Street and – handily – also pretty close to Godalming Station. There’s plenty of parking nearby, although for this one it’s best to leave the car at home.
Buzzy, fun and relaxed. We arrived at 2pm on a woefully wet Saturday and the place was heaving with a private birthday party being hosted at one end of the bar and several groups dotted around the tables at the other end. It feels fun and lively, but there’s also a cool, contemporary vibe. Interiors are simple and stylish with quirky flourishes. Open fires and also a couple of fake ones make this a cosy place to setting in for an afternoon. And the bar is well stocked with a wide selection of gin, wine and craft beer.
The building itself dates back to Tudor times and over the years – and through various reincarnations – has been added to with many of these features still in place. The original bakers’ shop window is still there, and the original brick built bakers’ ovens are still in the cellar.
SCOFF & QUAFF
Let’s talk fizz. The Pizza and Prosecco Bottomless Brunch is all about the scoffing and quaffing – as much as you can down in 1.5 hours. There are three stonebaked pizzas to chose from – Margarita, Jamon or Etna – and while my Margarita was very tasty indeed, one 12 incher was enough.
Well, yes and no. It’s a relaxed bar, and kids are welcome during the day, although after dark I’d say it would be best to leave the kiddos at home.
THE MUDDY VERDICT
Good for: Girly get-togethers, mum and daughter meet-ups, friends catching up.
Not for: It feels like one for the girls, although I guess guys would probably enjoy this too.
The damage: The cost is £25 per person for the Bottomless Pizza and Prosecco Brunch. It’s on Saturdays only.
