Perfect beach or festival accessories, these cheery bracelets in a huge range of colours help empower women in Mexico.
Getting festival ready, or channelling a boho or beach vibe?
Check out these colourful Colors X Good fashion accessories from Loula Social that actually help empower the women who make them.
Mexico is so full of colourful handicrafts I came home from my holiday in the country a few years back laden down with jewellery, Christmas tree ornaments, bunting, kids’ clothes and other gifts.
It was on her own Mexican holiday that the Sussex-based founder of Orelia Jewellery Louisa Hirst spotted the Colors x Good bracelets when she was shopping for souvenirs in Tulum.
She loved the ethos behind the enterprise so much she didn’t just come home with a wristful but a whole new venture of her own.
Her brand Loula Social is now the sole stockist of Colors X Good in the UK, with the bracelets available online and in branches of Top Shop.
The bracelets are made by Mexican women who were traditionally unemployed and under educated in their community and are now earning a good wage and gaining greater social standing. They learn English while they work and enjoy beach yoga as part of their week.
The adjustable bands make great gifts for friends and teens. What’s more, each colour represents a certain vibe – to remind yourself of a quality you wish to bring to your own life or that of the person receiving your gift.
I wore the ‘courage’ band to the England World Cup semi final (not sure it would have prevented my teeth gnashing if we’d gone to penalties!) My preference is Balance however – mainly because it’s in my favourite colour – teal but also because it’s a subtle daily reminder that it’s something I could do with more of in my life.
