Let’s talk about a new, under-the-radar, affordable designer brand that I can guarantee all your friends aren’t already wearing. Hello KITRI! It launched online earlier this year, it’s my new favourite label and I have a hunch you’ll love it too.
Designed by South Korean dynamo (and former ballerina) Haeni Kim, it excels in grown-up dresses, shirting and tailoring; deftly cut pieces that look far more luxe than than the price tag suggests. We’re talking £70ish for a top and £100ish for a dress – better value than high-end high street stores such as Reiss and Whistles, basically.
I met Haeni recently and she totally gets how modern, busy women want to dress. She’s big on practical pockets for example. She’s created this season’s edgy PVC black trousers in a relaxed fit, as she knows her audience will feel more comfortable in that cut. And she’s into clever design details that allow you to style the pieces depending on the occasion – tops with removable sleeves, for example, and the gorgeous navy leopard-print jumpsuit that comes with a detachable neck scarf. (That jumpsuit is now in my wardrobe, ahem.)
Talking of jumpsuits, I’ve also nabbed this wafty zingy coral one. I’ll be wearing it to Christmas parties with lashings of gold accessories. (Erm, does anyone know of a rehab programme for jumpsuit addicts?)
Until now KITRI has been online only, but I’d urge you to take a peek at the KITRI pop-up shop in London, which is open until 29 October. It’s at 35 Thayer Street, Marylebone (a gorgeous shopping stretch for indie boutiques, should you be in the mood for a splurge). Even if you leave empty-handed (what’s wrong with you, woman?), you’ll get to swoon over the thoroughly Instagrammable interiors – a ’70s dusky pink and merlot colour-palette, with sumptuous blush velvet walls and midcentury modern furniture.
