Back to Trends

We've gone mad for metallics this season - but the classic appeal of Jon Dibben jewellery means it'll last a lifetime.

Metallics are a massive catwalk trend this autumn/winter – from Karl Lagerfeld’s life-size rocket ship and accompanying futuristic metallic boots and frocks at the Chanel AW17 show last month, to JW Anderson’s chainmail dresses, Saint Laurent’s gold lamé gown and Christopher Kane’s shiny silver cardis and skirt.

And while – in the real world – a shiny silver or gold dress might be a bit much for an average day in the office or the morning school run – we can certainly get on board the new season’s trend, with some sleek silver and gold jewellery.

Well, peeps – it just so happens, that I know just the chap who can take this trend and turn it into something you’ll wear and keep for a lifetime.

Say hello to Surrey jewellery designer Jon Dibben … and check out his designs. I’m particularly loving the rose gold Meadow tourmaline ring. (Are you listening Mr Muddy?)

If you’re looking for individual handmade jewellery – something you won’t find at a high street jewellery store – Jon’s your man.

Jon has a workshop and studio at Smithbrook Kilns, just south of Guildford near Cranleigh, where you’ll find a stunning selection of ready-to-wear jewellery.

Jon’s style is classic and inspired by nature, giving each piece a timeless quality. Each design is created in limited numbers, with painstaking attention to detail and faultless finishing. And if you love the design of a particular piece of jewellery, but would rather a sapphire instead of, say, the sea green tourmaline, it’ s not a problem.

Jon will also create specifically commissioned pieces.

Jon is best known for his stunning rings, whether engagement, wedding, eternity – which are designed to sit perfectly together – or special occasion statements.

But what makes Jon’s jewellery really sparkle, is that fact both the gold, platinum and stones are ethically sourced.

He was one of the first 20 designers in the UK licensed to use Fairtrade gold, and his ever-increasing interest in ethical sourcing means the stones are also traceable back to the country, or even mine of origin.

Jon has been creating beautiful jewellery from his workshop at Smithbrook Kilns for more than 25 years, but the shiny creative seeds were sown many years before that – on a beach on the Greek island of Naxos.

At the end of his teenage years travelling around Europe, he found himself living as a naturist in a hut on Naxos, making simple jewellery from shells and beads. Those days are long behind Jon, but the essence of what he created back then is still the same. And he still looks to nature for his inspiration.

Jon Dibben Jewellery Design, 40a Smithbrook Kilns, Cranleigh, Surrey, GU6 8JJ.
