The ultimate guide to wedding dresses

You've found your perfect partner, you've got the perfect ring. Now's the time to find the perfect dress - and here's the perfect guide to get you started.

Secured that ring on your left hand and now excited to get into the swing of wedding planning? One of the most difficult yet thrilling parts of getting wed is picking that perfect dress. To get you started and in the mood for all things bridal, here’s our guide to wedding dress silhouettes with a little help from the beautiful dresses stocked at The Farnham Boutique. Congrats!

A-Line:

Like the style of a ball gown but not sure about the big full skirt? A-Line dresses offer a similar silhouette with less of the drama. The floor length design means no one will notice when you take to the dance floor sans heels!

Trumpet/Fit-and-Flare:

One of the more traditional silhouettes, this style will nip you in at the waist and go slimline down to your thighs, then flaring out elegantly. This classic style has had a resurgence and is one of our favourites here at Muddy!

Ball Gown:

Make all your princess wedding dreams come true with a ball down wedding dress. Traditionally fitted to the waist and then dramatically flaring out with a full skirt, when else could you get away with wearing such a statement dress? It’s your day – own it!

Mermaid:

Keen to make a statement? Look no further than the ultra-modern mermaid style, which hugs the body down to your mid thigh or knees and then dramatically flares out. This design can be as statement as you want, with different impacts created with different materials. Pick satin for a bold look, or perhaps a more low-key lace approach is more your thing.

Sheath/Column:

Classic, low key and elegant, a column dress oozes class. Keep it simple with a plain white silk number, or smother it with something sparkly for an extra special look. This style with super versatile and you can make it what you want.

Jumpsuit:

Dresses not your thing? You’re certainly not the only one, with wedding jumpsuits soaring in popularity in recent years. Steer clear of rigid materials like satin and opt for all things lace. It’s all-in-one option that will be beautiful and dance proof!

The Farnham Boutique offers a collection of bridal gowns – each designed in-house and completely unique to the boutique. You’ll find the boutique at 43A The Borough, Farnham, Surrey, GU9 7NW
