Update your wardrobe
Don't worry, we're not going to suggest you to chuck it all out and start again. You just need Muddy's super-duper style tweaks.
Okay. So you’re planning your summer wardrobe but last year’s duds feel a bit tired. A bit dreary. A bit, well frankly, a bit last year.
So what to do? Despite what glossy fashion magazines try to convince you, chucking everything out every year and splurging on the new season’s new trends is neither necessary nor financially viable. Instead, stick to your personal style and finesse it here and there.
With this in mind, we’ve asked the style gurus at The Gate Boutique in Guildford to give us five simple style updates for the summer. Ok, ready?
Blazers! They’re everywhere – and if you’re anything like the Muddy team you probably have one in every safe neutral colour. This summer sister, step away from the grey and splash out on something like this flowered blazer from the casual but chic Italian label Ottod’Ame. It’ll be your wardrobe workhorse this summer – especially if you live in jeans and a tee. It’ll even work in your holiday wardrobe – sling it over fresh white shorts for an elegant but casual evening look. And *yippee* it’s in the sale at The Gate, reduced from £199 to £99.50.
What’s summer without a swimsuit – and this white Melissa Odabash Barcelona bandeau bikini is the business. You can’t go wrong with the cool crispness of white, and I love the feathered-look detailing. But the best bit – apart from the fact it’s half price in The Gate sale (£99.50 down from £199) – is that you won’t get any weird strap marks while you’re lounging by the pool.
The cover-up dress
Every girl needs a cover-up for getting to and from the beach and this sheer dress by Italian designer TAJ by Sabrina Crippa is cool, elegant and stylish. It’s at The Gate for £260, down from £520.
We’re coveting this playful and exotic top by Australian designer Camilla Franks. Combining playful prints and vivid colours – both big for summer 2018 – this “Camilla Meet Me Here” drop shoulder top is the perfect way to funk up your summer wardrobe. Oh, and the brand is beloved by c’lebs including Miranda Kerr, Lily Allen and Beyoncé, so you’re in good company, and quite possibly worth the £529 investment.
Espadrilles are undoubtedly the footwear of beach season, and we’re loving these Carina Castañer espadrilles in antique rose and brick canvas. They’ll complement everything from dresses and skirts to jeans. They’re in The Gate’s summer sale, reduced from £120 to £84.
