Summer travels looming and nothing to wear? Be inspired by these favourites from the wardrobes of Surrey's top buyers and stylists
‘Holiday! Celebrate!’ Madonna once urged us. But as the summer break approaches you may be feeling less of the celebration and more of the panic at what should go in your suitcase.
Aaargh! Don’t know where to start? We feel your pain. So in our search for some holiday fashion inspiration, we asked the owners of Surrey’s top women’s boutiques and two brilliant fashion stylists to tell us what they wouldn’t leave home without.
COOL & CLASSY
Julia Jaconelli, Courtyard, Guildford: “This is my favourite piece that I took to Skiathos in Greece with me a couple of weeks ago. It’s an effortless long dress with tonal embroidery detail cut to a loose, relaxed silhouette with a scooped, stepped hem. It’s brilliant to take on holidays because it’s so versatile. I wore it over swimwear, as a dress for lunch and in the evening with a slip under it.”
FUN & FLIRTY
Ivy, Quattro Rish, Reigate: “This is the ultimate summer tee. Fun and colourful, it will jazz up any floral skirt, or you can pair it with shorts or white denim for a relaxed look. It also makes an easy evening outfit when worn with black skinnies and high heels.”
BEST FOOT FORWARD
Liz Trendle, The Gate Boutique, Guildford and Catwalk, Godalming: “My must-have holiday piece is this soft cotton maxi dress from Peruvian-inspired brand, Pitusa. It’s easy to wear and comes in a range of beautiful sherbet colours. And it can be dressed up with wedges or simply worn over a swimsuit for poolside glamour plus it has a very affordable price tag too!”
Clare Percival, stylist and lifestyle coach, Now It’s All About Me: “I do love a holiday, who doesn’t? My perfect location is where I lived many years ago in Greece, but I am keeping the village a secret! What would I take with me? In keeping with the style of the place, my vibe (horizontal) and mood (cocktail o’clock) it can only mean one thing: anything that is a stylish beach to bar kaftan or beach dress. My favourite is a preloved beach dress, originally from Boden. I made some alterations to the sleeves to give them an edgy look and I fell in love with the Neopolitan ice-cream colours.”
