Party with Two Ducks
Muddy award-winning lifestyle store, Two Ducks, celebrated its 5th birthday on Friday with a summer party under the stars at St John's Lye. Happy birthday - hip hip hooray!
There was cake, there were canapés and there were cocktails! Plus a fabulous fashion show on lawns at St John’s Lye showcasing the unique labels available at the store.
Two Ducks owner Claire Leigh has established a large and loyal following since she opened Two Ducks five years ago – and the fans, as well as family and friends were there to help celebrate.
Picnic rugs, cushions and lanterns were spread out on either side of the grassy catwalk, as Two Ducks friends and clients modelled the fashions put together by Surrey stylist, Emma Shoe.
The Tipsy Pigs cocktail van was on hand to knock up a cocktail or several – it was a Two Ducks Mojito for me, and mighty fine it was too, served in a funky jam jar. A delicious range of canapés were continually floating past made by Horsell Kitchen – and that cake! Check it out – made by Christine at Canalbank Bakery in St John’s.
The event was also in support of The Lightbox in Woking, where the Seasons café, incidentally, is run by the team from the Tipsy Pigs.
Two Ducks is a wonderful example of a small local independent business shining brightly and flourishing in the sometimes shaky world of retail. High Street businesses have long had to re-think their survival tactics as online and digital retailing continues to grow – a third of non-food purchases are now made online.
But Claire has established a wonderful shop – it’s a destination in itself and well worth visiting. As well as Claire’s wonderfully friendly staff, you’ll be greeted by the smells of gorgeous scented candles that burn all day and cool funky jazz tunes that waft quietly throughout.
Two Ducks was originally opened as a gift shop, but now also stocks a large selection of women’s fashion as well – labels like Indi & Cold, Part Two, Ese O Ese, Just Female, Ilse Jacobsen, Jeff and Suncoo. You’ll also find a fab range of shoes from the likes of Isle Jacobsen, Solillas and Cara.
Claire has a good eye for lovely things – unique, beautiful and all the best quality – and true to her own roots, she’s a big fan of supporting British makers and designers. Her newest line of jewellery comes from Yaa Yaa London a gorgeous range of natural gemstone and semi-precious stone jewellery designed by Yvonne Asare who lives just a few miles from the shop.
There’s very little on the shelves at Two Ducks that I don’t love – it’s a wonderfully eclectic range that’s been carefully sourced from throughout the UK and Europe – beautiful chunky knit throws (I’ve got my beady eye on you!), candles, ceramics, handbags, scarves, children’s clothes, body products as well as men’s gifts and an extensive range of stationery.
If you fancy visit, St John’s village sits right on the Basinstoke Canal, there’s an independent coffee shop next door, and plenty of free parking across the road on the village green.
