8 things to do with dad

Taxi service, sports coach, cash machine… dad's rock. And to show our appreciation this Father's Day (FYI: it's on Sun 16 June) we've come up with eight great ways to spoil him.

Jazz on the Lawn
■ Denbies Wine Estate, Dorking Sun 16 June

Treat dad to an afternoon of jazz on the lawn at Denbies Wine Estate where he can tuck into a BBQ and taste wines from the vineyard and ale from the resident Surrey Hills micro-brewery. Music by Jaz2. Tickets are £25 for adults £13.50 for children 17 and under and £9.50 for kids 12 and under. Book here

Polesden Lacey’s Rose Festival
■ Polesden Lacey, near Dorking Mon 10 June – Sun 21 July

The roses at Polesden are in full flush around Father’s Day so if your dad is an avid gardener he’ll love a stroll around the gardens at this National Trust property near Dorking. After working up and appetite on our walk, head to the café for rose-inspired cake. nationaltrust.org.uk

Father’s Day Pampering Gift Voucher
■ Nilosa Beauty and Aesthetics to be taken before 31 July

Dads like to be pampered too, and at Nilosa Beauty and Aesthetics in Frimley they’ve created some fabulously decadent packages for dads. Treat him to a bundle of Sothys mens products and he’ll get a voucher for a facial, back treatment or head massage, depending on the value. nilosabeautyandaesthetics.co.uk

Learn to fly fish
■ Frensham Trout Fishery, Churt

If your dad is handy with fishing line – or if he fancies giving it a go – book him a day out with a coach from Surrey-based We Fly Fish. There’s nothing they don’t know about fly fishing, including the best spots to actually catch a fish, and they offer lessons for all levels and experience. Everything you’ll need for the day is included. Dad’s only job is to turn up and reel in the big one. weflyfish.co.uk

Father’s Day Barbecue
■ Brooklands Hotel, Weybridge ■ Sun 16 June

Every dad loves a BBQ – and even more if he doesn’t have to cook it! Treat yours to a three course barbecue lunch at the 1907 restaurant, bar and grill while enjoying a mix of smooth jazz and modern pop songs from resident musician Jak Chantler. And as a special gift for dad, he’ll also get a one-month gym membership and a 30 minute personal training session. brooklandshotelsurrey.com

Fego ft Live Music
Fego, Banstead ■ Fri 14 June

Okay, so not strictly a Father’s Day event but we thought this would be a great night out, if yours a dad who loves live music and good food. Head to Fego in Banstead where singer/songwriter Eden Hunt Turner will be strumming her guitar and singing some tunes. hellofego.com

Father and Son / Daughter Spa Experience
The Runnymede on Thames, Egham ■ valid from 1 – 30 June

Another chance to pamper your pa, only this time you can get in on the action too. This four-hour Spa Experience includes a welcome drink of juice, tea or coffee, and a choice of either a 25 minute back, neck and shoulder massage, or a 25 minute relaxing foot treatment or a refresher facial, plus a complimentary Men’s Intro Collection gift set for dad. You’ll also have full use of all indoor spa facilities. runnymedehotel.com

Golf day
■ Lingfield Resort Golf Course ■ valid until the end of June

Does your dad like to hit a small ball around a field? Yep, mine too. And Lingfield Resort have a couple of packages throughout June that might appeal to the golfers in your life. The Golf, Buggy & Beer Fourball package is great idea if you want four golfers together (£198) – and they’ll have the use of two golf buggies and get to enjoy a pint of beer each at the end. Or if it’s just a round of golf with dad that you’re after, book the “Beer, Burger and Round of Golf” for £45pp. lingfieldpark.co.uk
