Buying British has never been more important. With climate change, rising diet-related ill-health and widespread declines in our wildlife, the need to produce healthy food, cut food miles and protect our wildlife is getting more important. Choosing how we eat is a simple but powerful form of direct action.

Here they give us five reasons why we should all eat green.
1. Organic food is better for you.
It’s fairly simple, really. Organic food is more nutritious because it hasn’t been treated with all those pesky pesticides and artificial fertilisers. And research has shown that organic foods are higher in antioxidants and other nutrients, like omega-3 and CLA essential fatty acids. Now will someone pass the broccoli.
2. You’re making the world better
Organic means working with nature, not against it. This means lower levels of pesticides, no manufactured herbicides or artificial fertilisers and more sustainable management of the land – so that’s good for you as well as the soil. And not only that, but the birds and other wildlife will also benefit. Organic farmers work hard to enhance and protect the environment, and maintain habitats for native plants and animals.
Jonathan at Cherry Gardens Farm in Groombridge – one of Greener Greens’ growers – collects fallen apples over the summer and stores them until the winter, when he puts them out for the birds that may be struggling with the frozen ground. Bob at Selehurst Garden Blueberries in Horsham practises biannual thinning and coppicing of woodland on the farm, which has encouraged flowers and shrubs such as bluebells, daffodils, snowdrops, buddleia and elder.
3. Organic food tastes better
Well it would wouldn’t it, if hadn’t been doused in all those chemicals. But aside from the chemicals, organic produce will often find itself from farm to plate in super-quick time. At Greener Greens, all of the fresh vegetables, fruit and herbs are produced by selected small independent local growers and mostly collected by the GG team within 24 hours of harvesting.
4. Organic farming is good for the earth
We’re harking back to those chemicals again. And it’s no wonder, because in the UK, 93% of our farmland is intensively farmed using toxic chemicals and with little consideration for the wildlife that has lived there for generations. Our farmland has gone from being a sanctuary for birds, mammals and wildflowers to places that are stagnant and so full of pesticides that they don’t really benefit us. And they definitely don’t benefit the wildlife. So by eating organic you’ll be helping nature.
5. You’ll support local businesses
