Style and sustainability
No need to substitute style for sustainability when gorgeous eco brands like Liga are available right on our doorstep.
Organic. Recycled. Sustainable. Three little words we’re hearing a lot lately – and as a world in climate crisis enters a new decade, so we should be.
But the good news is, we don’t have to substitute style for sustainability. Take a look at these stunning little homewares beauty from Cornish brand Liga. Don’t worry – you don’t have to head to Cornwall to shop these babies – they’re available at Two Ducks, the gloriously gorgeous lifestyle store in St John’s, Woking.
Like Two Ducks, Liga is a small family business that’s proud to be part of the eco-awakening that’s undoubtedly happening right now.
The Earthenware Collection is a combination of cork and pottery – designed and made in Portugal where both cork and ceramics have a strong tradition. It’s cool and contemporary, and an obvious big hit for anyone who loves the ever-popular Scandi look that’s still a big interiors trend this season.
The teapot (£38) is good family size without being too big. And the clever design means it pours well – without leaking – and keeps tea warm with the insulating cork. On a practical level, the cork and ceramic comes apart, so cleaning is a doddle.
Obviously you can’t have a teapot without mugs! And we love the chic and unfussy designs of these ones (£11 each) which come in cream and storm grey. We’d go for a combination of both colour combinations – partly because we can’t decide which we like most, and partly because you can never have too many mugs. Handily, the cork works to keep your drink hotter for longer – so no tepid tea.
Another favourite from the collection is this fruit bowl (£42).
Run by Claire Leigh, Two Ducks is a treasure trove of things – including fashion, homewares, gifts and jewellery. Everything is unique, beautiful and all the best quality – and true to her own roots, Claire is a big fan of supporting British makers and designers.
While you’re there, check out these prints from the Everlong Print Company, also a family-run business, based in the Lakes District. They do a snazzy line in prints like these ones below (£19.99 for a 30 x 40cm print and £49.95 for the larger 50 x 70cm print). They come unframed, so you can add your own style touch, but look great in the basic Ikea Lomviken frames.
If you fancy visit, St John’s village sits right on the Basinstoke Canal, there’s an independent coffee shop next door, and plenty of free parking across the road on the village green.
