The heart of Artichoke Interiors
Artichoke Interiors is my kind of place - the kind of shop where I'd be happy to take home pretty much everything in it. I think you're going to love it, too.
Set up four years ago by friends Gill and Debs in an old shed on a turkey farm at West Horsley, it’s a stunningly gorgeous space filled with stylish and quirky interiors pieces.
The show room is divided into two rooms – and it’s a testament to these ladies’ good taste that they’ve made this former turkey incubator look so ravishing. While it’s not a whopper of a space, you could easily while away an hour or more just mooching about.
Gill and Debs are both originally from South African and have been friends for 20 years. Artichoke is something they’d talked about setting up for years, and, indeed, before opening shop they ran pop-up events from their respective homes four times a year – one for each season. Eventually the pop-ups became too big and they needed to find a more permanent space.
And so Artichoke was born, where Gill and Debs have put together a collection of eclectic furniture, homewares and gifts. It’s a stylish mix of vintage inspired hand-painted furniture and more modern pieces including lamps, mirrors, cushions and throws. There are also pieces that take their inspiration from their South African roots, and a range of the most realistic-looking artificial plants I’ve ever seen.
I think we can just let the pictures to the talking on this one!
Price points are good – no doubt in part because the shop is not situated on a busy high street. The other upside to this, of course, is that parking is plentiful.
Cushions range in price from £16-£45, depending on the size you’re after and the fabric. Lamps start at a very reasonable £38 rising to £160 for the really big ones – and they all come with the base and shade.
There’s a stunning range of blankets and throws – including a super affordable but also very luxurious range that start at £33.
If you’re looking for a small and quirky gift, I guarantee you’ll find what you’re looking for here. But they also offer gift vouchers, if you can’t decide.
And the ladies offer tea and coffee to all of their customers too – served, as you might expect, in striking ceramic cups and saucers. There are also lovely homemade biscuits. And that’s what makes Artichoke such a magical place – and an interiors destination to which a loyal tribe of clients regularly return.
The showroom is open three days a week – Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays – as well as by appointment.
