Property Flirt: I think I’m in love…
There are properties that I like to flirt with. Just the usual flirting: a little blushing of cheek, fluttering of eyelash and possibly flashing of leg. It’s nothing serious, just a little crush. My heart’s not in it for the long haul.
And then there are the properties I go doolally over. These are the ones I would introduce to my parents. To my grandma. These properties are the keepers. They have everything on my tick list, and more.
Folks. I’ve found my keeper. Feast your eyes on this gorgeous hunk of a property. Think of it as the Leo DiCaprio of real estate – all 4400 square feet of it. But you might have to fight me for it.
You know the rules though, first you’ve got to guess the price. And here comes your first set of hints.
This Grade 2-listed property sitting on just over six acres is called Damson Cottage Farm. It’s surrounded by mature gardens and woodlands, and the house has been completely refurbed so is looking pretty buff.
It’s in the village of Grayswood, a couple of miles north of the pretty market town of Haslemere. It’s well served for schools, with several excellent schools close by, including Prior’s Field, Cranleigh Prep and Senior School, Charterhouse.
Historically, Damson Cottage Farm was part of the Witley Estate, once owned by the shipping magnate Viscount Pirrie, who built the Titanic. The five-bedroom cottage was built in the 1550s, and the Tudor features are still at its essence: a large open inglenook fireplace and bread oven and beamed ceilings.
Downstairs there are four reception rooms, plus a kitchen/breakfast room, a study and large entrance hall and rear hall. The Mark Wilkinson kitchen, which includes an Aga as well as an integrated gas hob, leads through to the dining room with a gorgeous vaulted ceiling and a large arched window. Pour yourself a gin in here and settle back here to look out over the grounds. I think you’ll agree, it’s preeeeetty nice!
In addition to the telly room, there’s also a library … (indulge me, can we call this room Muddy Surrey HQ? Please?)
And a drawing room …
Upstairs there are five bedrooms, including the master bedroom suite with a dressing room and it’s own bathroom, and a guest room also with its own bathroom, plus a separate family bathroom.
Within the grounds, there’s plenty of space for a horse or five: with five stables, a tack room, store room and three-bay barn. All my girlhood dreams are coming together right here.
And then, if that weren’t quite enough to tickle your fancy, there’s a heated swimming pool as well. Hello handsome!
As you’d probably expect of a property like this one, a long private driveway lined with trees (natch!) leads to the house, past a 1.5 acre paddock and duck pond. And, obviously, there are garages to house the Range Rovers.
A few thoughtful flourishes round it all of nicely: a Sonos sound system has been installed in all of the main rooms on the ground floor, and ground source heating has been installed helping to keep heating bills under control
Oh, and there’s also a detached studio cottage in the gardens; so somewhere for the staff, or perhaps the in-laws when they visit.
Not much else left to say really. Except, perhaps: when can I move in? And how much to you think it’s worth? So, get a figure in mind (no cheating), focus (bend a few spoons) and see if you’ve guessed the price. Bon chance!
