Well, I think I’ve found my next home! And as always, we’re going to have a bit of fun with it. I’ll drip feed you a clue or two, and all you have to do is work out how much money you’ll need to get hold of the keys.
Say hello to Tandridge Court, a fine country mansion set within park-like grounds of about 16 acres.
We’re looking here a substantial wing of this mansion, built in the early 1800s and once home to Sir William Weller Pepys, a descendent of Samuel Pepys. It’s a pandora’s box of dreamy period features – and if you’re into Bridgerton-chic you’ll be in heaven.
It’s tucked away in a quiet semi-rural spot on the fringe of Tandridge village, midway between Oxted and Godstone. But you reach Tandrige Court via a long private gravel driveway, flanked on either side by communal lawns and immaculate grounds which sweeps around in front of the house. So far, very grand!
And it gets better… ready to go inside? You’ll almost feel like you’ve stepped back in time when you step inside the grand entrance hall. Just look at that grand galleried staircase, and above it there’s a domed and moulded ceiling. Note too, the buffed mahogany doors. Very nice!
Originally designed for entertaining on a grand scale, much of that elegance and luxury still exists today.
The drawing room, originally part of the ballroom, is off to the left – a stately room that still has the original oak and plaster panelled walls and an intricate moulded ceiling.
Those double height windows offer panoramic views out over the countryside. Sigh!
There’s a formal dining room too, which leads into a large and contemporary open-plan kitchen/breakfast room.
Bi fold doors in the kitchen lead to the terrace – and the perfect spot to enjoy your morning coffee or a sundowner. Or maybe both!
Also on the ground floor you’ll find a family cinema room and a utility and cloak room. Doors also lead from the kitchen directly to the double garage – a handy convenience for rainy days.
Arranged over three floors the rest of the house doesn’t disappoint either. Head upstairs to the first floor and there’s a stunning galleried landing, along with four bedrooms and family bathroom
The master bedroom suite has a luxury walk-in wardrobe and an enormous ensuite bathroom.
The second floor there is a nanny suite, with a sitting room and two double bedrooms and a shower room. There’s also a large loft storage area.
Outside, there are just shy of 2 acres of private grounds, in addition to the shared 16 acres. A wide terrace spans the rear of the house – a veritable sun-trap and with gorgeous views.
There’s also a Victorian summerhouse in the garden, a log store and a shed.
