Property flirt: Gorgeous Godstone gaff
Rightmove has reported that property searches for homes with gardens are through the roof at the mo – no surprise that everyone in lockdown is craving more outdoor space! Well, The Old Pay house on the outskirts of Godstone, near Oxted ticks all the boxes – and then some, thanks to the 1.67 acres of garden and grounds, as well as six bedrooms and more reception space than you can shake a stick at. Let’s take a look inside, shall we?
Hello, whopper of a kitchen/diner! Plenty of space for cocktails and dancing here, and it’s neutral enough to put your own stamp on (loving the sky blue kitchen cabinets). The vaulted garden room was added to the kitchen with windows on all sides looking out over the garden, and French doors leading to a terrace. There’s a large utility room off the kitchen, which leads to a large downstairs loo.
The sitting room is dual aspect – with views out across the gardens – and could also be used as a formal dining room. There’s also a snug with French doors opening out onto a terrace, and a family room. So no shortage of space in this part of the house – we can just imagine snuggling up in the sitting room room in front of the original inglenook fireplace with log-burning fire in winter. And adding to the features, are the original bread and salt ovens.
Downstairs, there’s also a guest room with its own ensuite shower room. But we’re heading upstairs, where there’s a glorious master bedroom suite with it’s own dressing room and ensuite bathroom.
There are another two bedrooms on this floor and a family bathroom, while on the second floor there are a further two bedrooms.
One of the crown jewels of this property has to be the humongous garden – wowzers! There’s clearly a lot of room to work with, as well as a large entertaining terrace with views over the gardens and surrounding countryside, there’s also a heated swimming pool. Oh yes! Just when you thought it couldn’t get any better.
The house is set back from the road – screened by mature trees and shrubs – and approached via a gated entrance and a gravel driveway. There’s a triple-car garage with a handy room above it.
Godstone itself is a sweet little village centred around a pretty green with a duck pond. There are several good pubs in the village, but it’s also near the bigger town of Oxted – which has direct fast trains to London, so you get the best of both world – idyllic countryside with urban connections. Schools wise, you’re also in a pretty good area with Lingfield College, Caterham School, Woldingham School and Hazelwood School all close by.
All well and good, but how much would you be willing to pay? Take a guess and comment below, then peek at the right answer over at Jackson Stops in Oxted (no cheating, now!).
