Just when you thought you knew your jacket from your dressing gown, out comes the kimono blazer with its smart tailoring and cool Japanese edge.
It’s true, kimono influences have been around for a while now – but we just can’t seem to get enough. And what a perfect gift for mum this Mother’s Day. There are some serious Mother’s Day brownie points in that there jacket!
These gorgeous threads – and lots of other gorgeous gift ideas – are from Muddy-award winner Two Ducks gift shop in St John’s village, Woking.
I’d personally love a jacket to find its way to me on Mothering Sunday morning (Surrey mudlets, take note!). It’s from chic Spanish label Ese O Ese, which turns out beautiful, feminine and chic clothing (prices start at £39.99) – including the stripy breton jersey (below left). And you know what? I’d be pretty happy to unwrap that too! Tres chic.
But – and I though I don’t mean to sound greedy, it’s true I’d have it all – I’m also rather taken by this dressing gown (£69.99) by One Hundred Stars. You might have seen it recently on the domestic goddess herself, Nigella Lawson. The same label also produce beautiful quirky scarves, like the New York city map scarf (above right).
If you haven’t been to Two Ducks – it’s a wonderful treasure trove of gifts ideas. Candles, chocolate, handbags, interiors, jewellery. Claire Leigh, the owner, has assembled a gorgeous range of gift ideas from British designers as well as a selection of the best from overseas.
She’s made it her mission to scour boutiques, galleries, craft fairs, delis, farm shops and village fetes to uncover the beautiful, the quirky and the unusual – that you won’t find in any old store. I challenge you leave empty handed.
Here are some other ideas for mum, grannie or self – in fact any amazing woman in your life.
Above left: These super stylish Elizabeth Scarlett pouches are hand made with gold threads, and would make the perfect make-up or wash bags (£20).
Above right: I’m loving the Katie Loxton clutches – stylish, practical and with beautiful sentimental messages, like “Marvellous Mum” (£16.99).
Above left: Liza’s Jewellery – a stunning collection of new handmade jewellery designed in Germany (prices start from £9.99).
Above right: Wanderlust Life jewellery is a collection of understated and minimal jewellery inspired by the world. It’s handmade in North Devon by Georgie Roberts(prices start at £29).
