Want to live in a mansion house?
I quite fancy myself as a Lady of the Manor. Lady Chatterley, Lady Mary… they got it right didn’t they? Fancy a look inside this impressive home?
Well, I think I’ve found my Downton Abbey. And as always, we’re going to have a bit of fun with it. I’ll drip feed you a clue or two, and all you have to do is work out how much money you’re going to need to slap down in order to get hold of the keys. Before you know it Carson will be waking you up with a cup of Earl Grey and a lightly toasted crumpet.
Shall we begin? (You know you don’t really win the house, right? Just the glory. Ok, I might throw in the hot gamekeeper).
This Grade II listed Victorian beauty on the outskirts of Limpsfield, near Oxted, is known as St Michaels – it was originally a school for the children of missionaries in the late 1800s. And believe it or not, it won’t cost as much as you might think. That’s clue number one!
Today we’re snooping around the ground floor apartment – all 3,000 square feet of it – which is set within four acres of beautifully maintained communal grounds.
If first impressions aren’t impressive enough – the entry is via electronic wrought iron gates and a driveway which leads to a parking area – the inside of this apartment will definitely wow you with it’s large rooms and abundance of Victorian elegance.
A private front door opens into a warm and welcoming reception hall with the kitchen /dining room off to the left and a study or formal dining room off to the right.
The kitchen is wonderfully large, with a smart fitted kitchen and a useful utility. And down the hall you’ll find the sitting room – a massive 30ft long room with double aspect windows looking out over the gardens. There’s also a glass double doors leading out onto a perfectly placed south-facing private terrace.
There are two guest bedrooms, each with its own bathroom, and an impressive master suite with an ensuite bathroom, walk-in-robes and private dressing room. There are also glass double doors leading from the master bedroom to the private terrace.
A few last minute clues that may just bump up the price. The four acres of communal gardens and grounds of St Michaels are beautifully maintained with manicured lawns, established borders and mature trees. If you like tennis, there’s a modern hard tennis court and golfing enthusiasts will love the golf practice net. The Limpsfield Tennis and Squash Club is also nearby.
Location wise, you’re on the edge of Limpsfield village, within walking distance of the lovely local independent shops and the fabulous Bull Inn pub. Oxted town centre is also just under a mile away – which has a variety of independent shops, boutiques and restaurants – plus the stylish Everyman Cinema.
