Wouldn’t you though?
You might have already heard of Tom Raffield if you’ve had time to laze about in bed browsing the Sunday broadsheets lately while your children sit diligently at the kitchen table doing their homework (*cue hysterical laughter*), as design journos have been going crazy for his sexy statement urban lighting and furniture.
All hand-crafted in his woodland studio in Cornwall, his most popular designs are now being stocked in high end high street stores – and if they’re good enough for Heals and John Lewis, they’re good enough for Muddy!
Each piece is created by steam-bending wood by hand, they are then individually finished with the care and attention of a fine work of art. You’re looking at future classics here people – heirloom worthy luxury, reminiscent of Eames plywood range, but just a little more ‘organic’.
Tom’s designs have won countless awards, he’s scorching hot on sustainability and pretty much unique in his use of British solid woods and traditional steam bending. Hard to imagine that such low-fi methods made this stunning chair – which is one spiral of plywood…
If you’re in Cornwall anytime soon, then Tom has a showroom so you can go and see him in action (don’t forget to check out Muddy Cornwall before you go, obviously!) in the meantime, grab your brew and take five minutes to look around his website – it’s wood Jim, but not as we know it!
