Best kids’ holiday clubs

If you've not yet sorted your childcare for the long summer holidays, check out these brilliant clubs, camps and workshops throughout Surrey.

OUTDOORS: Mavericks Day Camp
■ Woodmansterne Primary School, Banstead ■ Tues 25 July – Wed 31 Aug

cross between Swallows & Amazons and a Bear Grylls show, this sounds ideal for adventurous types, with camping, nature trails, orienteering, ball games, scavenger hunts, arts and crafts, quad-biking and archery. And at £40 for a one day pass, £120 for three-days or £185 for a week there’s no reason not to get them off their screens and back to nature?

■ Caterham School, Caterham ■ Mon 19 – Fri 23 Aug

A five-day summer workshop that’s all about singing, dancing and drama. Kids will learn sequences from musicals, and on the Friday of each week family and friends will be treated to a special performance. It’s suitable for kids aged 6-18, and the workshops in Oxted and Caterham are different, so kids who are really keen can attend both!

OUTDOORS: Barracudas Activity Day Camp
■ Cobham, Croydon, Farnham, Godalming, Guildford, Ripley, Woking and Twickenham ■ Mon 22 July – Fri 23 Aug

Barracudas offers fun activity weeks and days during the holidays for children aged 4½-14 years. The programme is action packed with over 80 activities including aquaslide, motorsports, fencing, sports, arts and crafts and more. There are eight camps across Surrey and hours are flexible hours from 8am-6pm.

DANCE: Flipside Summer Dance School
■  Cobham Village Hall, KT11 2LU ■  Mon 5 – Fri 9 Aug

Open to all dancers of all levels, the Flipside Summer Dance School will take your kids through a range of dance styles, including street dance / hip hop, jazz, lyrical, contemporary and commercial. On Friday, the kids will showcase what they’ve learned with a performance at 3pm in the theatre at ACS International School, Cobham. The day starts at 8.45am each day and ends at 1pm for kids aged 5-8 and 4.30pm for kids aged 9-18.

VISUAL ARTS: Watts Art School
■ Watts Gallery Arts’ Village, Compton ■ Mon 29 July – Fri 2 Aug

Get a taster of art school with artist Becci Kenning – and explore sculpture, ceramics, photography and painting in a relaxed creative environment. Kids will end the week by curating an exhibition of their work for family and friends. It’s from 11am-4pm. Cost is £250.

■ The Little Gym, Godalming ■ Mon 29 July – Fri 30 August

Half or full-day camps for kids aged 3 to 12 with themed sessions – that change each week – to stimulate physical and motor-skill development through games and gymnastics.

PERFORMING ARTS: Rose Summer Schools
■ Rose Theatre, Kingston ■ Mon 29 July – Fri 2 August

The Rose offers three day courses for kids aged 7-10 from Wed to Fri (9am-4pm) with start dates on 21 and 27 July and 7 Aug. There are also week-long (Mon – Sat) workshops where kids rehearse and perform a play in a week, including Hansel and Gretel, The Jungle Book, Black Beauty, Oliver Twist and A Mid Summer Night’s Dream. Aimed at 11-16 year olds, these are from 9.30am-4.30pm.

PERFORMING ARTS: Dandelion Theatre Arts
■ Leatherhead Theatre, Leatherhead ■ Mon 29 July – Fri 2 Aug & Mon 19 – Fri 23 Aug

Learn the songs, dances and lines to some great stories and put on a show for family and friends at the end of each week! It’s A Jungle Book Jamboree in the first week and A Wizard of Oz and Wicked mash up for the second week. There are two, three, four and five-day options. Dandelion Theatre Arts

PERFORMING ARTS: Guildford Shakespeare Company Summer Camp
■ Onslow Village Hall, Guildford ■ Mon 29 July – Fri 2 August

Help your 12-18 year old take that first step to getting an Oscar with a week long camp leading up to a performance of The Merry Wives of Windsor.

SPORT: International Competitive Sailing Summer Course
■ Papercourt, Ripley ■ Mon 29 July – Thu 1 August

Get the kids away from their screens and out on the water with this fun-filled four day course. Perfect for beginners, be taught how to sail by some of the top experts in the filed who regularly compete at international level.

PERFORMING ARTS: Stagecoach Musical Theatre Workshop
■ St Joseph’s Primary School, Redhill ■ Mon 29 July – Fri 2 August

With no prior experience necessary, nurture you child’s outgoing side with a week of singing, dancing and acting that will boost both their skills and their confidence.
