ARTS: International Youth Arts Festival

Ten days of creativity, celebration and curiosity comes to Kingston with this year’s Youth Arts Festival featuring shows for children and families, theatre and dance performances, live music, comedy and visual arts.

Head to the the historic home of the Royal Horticultural Society to see Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again, Bohemian Rhapsody or The Greatest Showman beneath the stars. Blankets at the ready!

EVENT: Ewell Village Fair

With ponies, knights and food galore, this year’s village fair will be packed with entertainment, stalls, competitions and attractions. Pocket money at the ready!

ART: Woodland Fairy Fair

Embark on magical adventures in the Watts enchanted woodland and take the opportunity to create fairy worlds with plasticine, lolly sticks and pom-poms, craft a crown fit for a fairy king or queen or even build miniature dens.

EVENT: Albury Produce Show

Community is at the heart of this annual family event with plants, stalls, tombolas and cakes galore, all leading up to the final barn dance for everyone to embrace. Where did you come from, where did you go!

THEATRE: Guildburys’ Picnic Theatre 2019

The Government Inspector is coming Guildburys’ Picnic Theatre so roll out the picnic blanket, pack the sausage rolls and immerse yourself in the tale of a corrupt mayor of a small Russian town.

DANCE: Strictly Tudor Dancing

SPORT: International Competitive Sailing Summer Course

Get the kids away from their screens and out on the water with this fun-filled four day course. Perfect for beginners, be taught how to sail by some of the top experts in the filed who regularly compete at international level.

With no prior experience necessary, nurture you child’s outgoing side with a week of singing, dancing and acting that will boost both their skills and their confidence.

THEATRE: Tabby McTat

Tabby McTat is a tale friendship and loyalty from the team behind Tiddler and Other Terrific Tales. With original songs throughout, the show will be an hour of fun for the whole family.

THEATRE: A Midsummer Night’s Dream

Fill the picnic basket with goodies and fish out blankets from the back of the head and head to Hatchlands Park for an evening of open air theatre.

CINEMA: Sing-a-long-a Greatest Showman

Clear your throat and practice your high notes for this interactive showing of the most successful musical in a decade. Come alive!

THEATRE: Panto in the Park

Shiver me timbers! The Pumpkin Pantos are heading to Birdworld for a one-off performance of the famous Treasure Island. This interactive show is included with admission price to the park and runs from 1.30pm. Fun is ahoy!

PERFORMING ARTS: Guildford Shakespeare Company Summer Camp
■ Onslow Village Hall, Guildford ■ Mon 5 – Fri 9 August

Got a small budding actor in the family? This summer camp for drama queens and kings aged 7-13 years will create an adaption of Shakespeare’s shortest play, The Comedy of Errors. Action!

DANCE: Reigate School of Ballet Summer School
■ Reigate ■ Tue 6 – Thu 8 August and Tue 20 – Thu 22 August

Dance enthusiasts needn’t look further for these three-day camps where children will learn a mix of dance styles, drama, basic acrobatics, craft and singing. The fun filled days are from 10am – 3pm.

Fancy something different? Marvel as 100 Spanish and Portuguese horses showcase their beauty and skill in this traditional weekend of music, entertainment and culture.

LondonDanceCo Productions is coming to Leatherhead this summer to celebrate the 30th anniversary of their famous show, based on the 1980 phenomenal pop culture film. With over 100 cast members, the events are guaranteed to be an impressive display of dance, story and fun!

WORKSHOP: Dance Happy Summer Camp 2019
■ Riverhouse Barn Arts Centre, Walton-on Thames ■ Mon 12 – Fri 16 August

Whether your child is a dance pro, loves the idea of busting some moves for a week or perhaps needs a confidence boost, this week-long workshop is sure to put a spring in your little one’s step.

FESTIVAL: Weyfest 2019

Don your wellies for this famous family-friendly festival. Musical acts at this year’s event include Reef, Scouting For Girls and Gabrielle and don’t forget to get your pennies at the ready for the abundance of stalls, food offerings and entertainment that the kids are sure to get involved with.

WORKSHOP: British Youth Music Theatre Camp

The perfect way to get your teen to develop their acting, singing and dancing abilities, activities at the six-day camp will include creating and performing a brand new musical. The week can also contribute to an Arts Award or Duke of Edinburgh Award.

Prepare to get messy with this wonderfully colourful marbling masterclass for 8-12 year olds. Take your decorated tile home, but fixing to the bathroom wall is optional.

With live music, dance and music workshops, magic shows and circus entertainment being just some of the activities on the bill at this year’s festival, grab the glitter and enjoy the weekend bonanza. 

NATURE: Busbridge Lakes summer opening

Open only a handful of times per year, take the chance to visit during the summer and experience the gardens and parkland with the kids and picnic in tow. Entry is cash only.

WORKSHOP: Have-A-Go Archery

Channel your inner Robin Hood and try your hand at archery, learning all about the historic art. Try six arrows for £2.50 and see if you can get on target!

EVENT: Edenbridge & Oxted Agricultural Show

With a 140 acre showground offering non-stop entertainment and activities, this show features an abundance of activities to keep the kids happy. From horseback riding to giant games, fairground rides to animals including alpacas, bearded dragons and meerkats, the fun is endless!

EXPLORE: Minibeast Hunt in the Kitchen Garden

Become a wildlife explorer for the day and hunt for bugs under logs and stones, insects in the air, and creepy crawlies in the undergrowth in the recreated 18th century Kitchen Garden.

WORKSHOP: Tie Dyeing masterclass

Explore the world of colour to fold, scrunch and clamp cloth to create beautiful patterns on a tote bag. Bring your own tshirt along to make the ultimate bold fashion statement!

EVENT: Be an Archaeologist!
■ Denbies Wine Estate, Dorking ■ Wed 29 August

Join local archaeologists to learn about the amazing discoveries that been made in Surrey. Each session will include three activities and kids will have the chance to handle real artefacts found during excavations.


KIDS’ EVENTS: Summer Crafts and Games

Enjoy giant games like Jenga, skittles and Connect 4 in the orchard this summer, as well as craft activities From snail racing to peg insect creating. There will be a different activity each week. Crafting is £2.50 per craft and is from 10am-3pm daily.

From judo to archery, golf to dance, this active camp will have your little ones running around all day! A guaranteed good night’s sleep comes free.

INDOOR PLAY: Little Street

This imaginative indoor play centre – a grown ups world in miniature for little people – is a brilliant option for cooler or wet days with the littlies. Meet the baby arrivals in the vets, plant some seedlings in the gardening corner, bake Easter treats in the cafe, and dress up in our seasonal costumes. If you haven’t been yet, it’s well worth a visit.

KIDS EVENTS: Summer Fun on the Farm

Its six weeks of non-stop fun and games in the sun at Bocketts Farm this summer. With bubble discos, water wars and panning for gold being just some of the events in store, it’s inevitable that the whole family will want to get involved!

Fancy a bit of theatre with your flowers? Kew Gardens is hosting an outdoor performance of this famous story throughout the summer, with colourful costumes, interactive games and catchy songs throughout. Tickets need to be booked in advance.

EXPLORE: National Trust Bat Walks
■ Polesden Lacey, Great Bookham ■ 10 dates from Wed 7 Aug – Sat 7 September

Get to know the nocturnal beasts with a ranger-guided walk amongst the diving and darting bats. A special experience to share with the whole family!

KIDS EVENTS: The Very Hungry Caterpillar Summer Fun

In celebration of Eric Carle’s classic children’s book, explore the family trail and create a giant collaborative artwork in the Clore Learning Centre, puppet shows, storytelling and music workshops.

KIDS EVENTS: Festival on the Farm

Join the famous farm for its 40 years celebration event with music, messy zones, art and crafts and model making. Don’t forget to say hello to the animals!

COURSES: Fly fishing with We Fly Fish

We love a spot of fishing here at Muddy (didn’t know that, did you?!) – and at We Fly Fish they teach and coach at all levels. Get your kids hooked while they’re young and you may even get them off their devices and connecting with nature. *gasp*

ACTIVITIES: Wonder Box Rocks

The clever people at First Wonder Box have launched a fun game called Wonder Box Rocks – kids find a rock, paint it and then hide it for others to find. There will be weekly prizes. All the info you’ll need is here. Ready, steady, paint.
