Toy Box Tots
A clever couple of ladies have come up with a brilliant idea to save the planet and amuse your kids with a supply of new toys.
Why is that the smaller the child, the bigger the toys?
You know what I’m talking about: before they can even walk kids’ toys consist of those giant walker things, push chairs, enormous trucks, music stations… even pop up ball-pits.
When my two were small we had it all. My house looked more like a toy shop than a house – the obvious difference being that our toys were not neatly arranged on shelves. So, don’t even get me started on how the place looked by the end of the day.
My two are now in the teenage or tween years, and aside from a beautiful handpainted dolls house (that I won’t part with) and an oversized horse (that the tween won’t part with), the natural balance seems to be restored (and the toys contained to the kids’ bedrooms).
I hocked a lot of their toys on eBay (sssshhhh – don’t tell them!), so at least I felt we were recycling – but if I’d known about Toy Box Tots, I’d have been onto that like a rat up a drainpipe.
This innovative new Surrey company is the brainchild of a two mums-of-twins, Caroline and Ceci who met on in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in the hospital in Dubai where the babies were been born prematurely.
The women bonded over babies, and two years and two countries later, both found themselves living near each other back in Surrey – with toddlers in tow who always loved playing with other kids’ toys more than their own.
And so Toy Box Tots was born – a service that enables you to hire brilliant and high-quality bundles of toys for your pre school tots, then return them four weeks later and take delivery of a whole new bundle.
It’s a genius idea – and with Christmas around the corner it must surely be the perfect gift for any child – and endless supply of toys.
The toy boxes are categorised by age – 12-18 months, 18-24 months, 2-3 years and 3-4 years and each is based around a theme taken from a children’s book, which your child gets to keep.
As well as the toy box you’ll get a newsletter with lots of ideas for things to do with your tot and how to play with the toys.
There’s no pricey subscription involved – order as many or as few toy boxes as you like. And if you child falls in love with a particular toy there’s even the option to buy one (or you can request the same box again, until they move onto a new ‘favourite’.)
In the UK, the average yearly spend on toys for a child under nine is £639.50, which seems nuts to me – and so unnecessary.
And the best bit? Not only will your little darlings will have a constant supply of new and interesting toys to keep them amused, but you’re also helping to save the planet.
Toy Box Tots are offering Muddy Stilettos readers a discount on boxes bought for their own Tots or gift vouchers purchased as Xmas gifts – 10% if a single box bought and 15% off a 3 month subscription, using the voucher code ‘MUDDYSTILLETOS17’
