The Exchequer, Crookham, near Farnham
A charming village pub serving up crowd-pleasing gastrofare alongside locally brewed ales in a gorgeously pretty location on the Surrey / Hampshire border.

The Exchequer is a lovely down-to-earth village pub nestled in Crockham Village – between the towns of Farnham and Fleet.
It’s a stylish gastropub with bright interiors – think natural woods, leather upholstery and striking printed paper on the walls. There’s a cosy vibe, with woodburners flickering with a warming glow during the cooler months.
It’s a terrific spot in the summer too, with terrace gardens at the front and back. The Exchequer’s outside space offers a serene retreat from the every day – it’s the perfect place to re-energise after a long walk along Basingstoke Canal which is a literal stone’s throw from the pub.
There are various menus to chose from: breakfast (weekend) and brunch (Sat), afternoon tea (Mon-Sat), and the a la carte. And of course there’s a top-notch Sunday roast menu. What they have in common is a commitment to supporting local and British farmers and producers.
The main menu has a focus on beloved but elevated pub classics with contemporary flair. Think Scottish smoked haddock, Venison haunch rossini, a mixed grill of Cornish lamb, and pork belly with charred tenderstem broccoli. Vegetarians will find plenty here too, including wild mushroom risotto, plant-based burger, ted lentil dhal tadka and Cauliflower veloute, Jerusalem artichoke crisps. Brand new for 2025 is a healthy eating menu.
The drinks menu is a goodie – classic cocktails sit alongside a carefully curated wine list, craft beers and locally brewed ales.
Part of the Grosvenor Pubs & Inns family, The Exchequer is perfect for a chilled family lunch, a low-key date night, or a Sunday roast after a walk on the canal.
