Back to Christmas

Surrey’s best Santa

The Muddy sprogs are long past those precious days when a visit to see Father Christmas was the highlight of their entire year. It’s one of the sad facts of being a parent to tweens and teens (among others!). *SIGH*

But Muddy’s commercial manager Becky still has two adorable little sweethearts – they’re 3 and 2 – and their trip to Godstone Farm was a magical and wondersome experience for the whole family. We asked Becky to fill us in on their day…

Muddy: First things first. Were the kids beside themselves with excitement at seeing the jolly man in the red suit?

Becky: Oh absolutely. But it’s not just about the Santa. The whole experience has been brilliantly done. They seem to have thought of everything.

Muddy: Any tears? Santa can be overwhelming for little people.

Becky: Ha. No! Thankfully. But you don’t just turn up and see Santa. There’s a lovely build up to it all. It all starts at the check in, which is done by an elf. You’re then ushered through a small set of doors to see another elf who checks to see if the kids have been naughty or nice.

Muddy: And?

Becky: They got nice! Phew! So then it was off to see Father Christmas, via another elf. All the walkways and little rooms are super festive. Some serious effort has gone into the decorations.

Muddy: So what was the big moment like?

Becky: It was great. We didn’t feel rushed at all, and Santa was very welcoming. The kids had a little chat with him about their Christmas list and then another elf takes you to a toy room where they got to choose their own Christmas present.

Muddy: Wow! Seriously? That takes the term like kids in a candy shop to a whole new level!

Becky: It’s a great idea, and worked really well. My kids loved the fact they got to choose their own pressie, although I can see how some kids might feel a bit overwhelmed at this point.

Muddy: What were the queues like?

Becky: We’d booked to see Santa at 11.30am- they were running about 15 minutes late. But there’s so much to see along the way it’s really not a problem.

Muddy: And photos? Is there a professional there taking pics? And can you take your own?

Becky:  Photos are taken at two points along the way – just before you see Father Christmas in the reindeer room, and then with FC himself. The elves were happy to use your phone to take pics for you too. As well as ordering professional photos, you can also have them made into snow globes, which was a nice touch. The couple who were just in front of us had taken their two boys who were 4 and 6 to see a few Santas and they said this was the best they’d been to.

Muddy: Anything else we should know about?

Becky: Oh yes. When you arrive you’re given a gingerbread voucher to decorate a gingerbread man in one of the barns. We decided to have some lunch before doing the decorating, and didn’t know they closed between 12.30pm and 1.30pm. It was getting well past our youngest’s nap time so we skipped it. Wish I’d seen the sign – but something for others to watch out for.

Muddy: And what about the rest of the farm? Is it still business as usual.

Becky: Yes, your ticket to see Santa includes entry to the farm and everything else is open as usual: the soft play, wiglets bar, animal petting and tractor rides. But there’s a really festive atmosphere to it, as there are decorations up everywhere.

Muddy:  Any final words?
Becky: Yes, it’s an awesome effort by the farm, and highly recommended!
