Need a night out?

*** STOP PRESS ***

Throwback Thursday had to be postponed on Thurs 1 March due to the snow. But the Beast from the East isn’t going to stop us having fun – and the event will now be held on Thurs 15 March. Same time. Same place. Book here.

People celebrating at a party

Remember those days when a night out involved spontaneity, a little craziness – and often the night bus home? They’re long past for me – *cough* – though I do admit to having dozed off on the train home from London and woken up to a station that was many past the one I should have got off at.

It feels to me like a night out that involves cocktails and music – and maybe a little dancing – takes a massive effort involving either a trek to London or a dance floor that’s full of frisky teenagers.

And let’s not even talk about the morning after. But that’s another story …

So, I’m a bit excited to tell you about Throwback Thursdays, a brand new club night for grown-ups that’s coming to the brand new Hummings Lounge  – formerly the Bisoux Lounge – in Esher.

It’s a private affair – you must buy your tickets in advance from here – and it promises to be the least hassle evening ever, as well classy, sophisticated and brilliant fun.

A unique playlist has been put together by the creator Eve Bulley. If you’re a lover of thrash metal or drum’n bass, it may not be for you – tunes will be fun and funky throwback classics. Think Diana Ross, Prince, Michael Jackson, Donna Summers.

Hummings Lounge has been open for less than two months – but already it’s garnering a reputation for brilliant cocktails.

The menu was devised by top mixologist the Talented Mr Fox (aka Matt Whiley) – co-founder of legendary London bar Fluid Movement (as well as five other award-winning bars), one of the Evening Standard’s 1000 most influential Londoners, and the man responsible for cocktail menus at the Michelin-star restaurants The Man Behind The Curtain,  Fera at Claridges and Restaurant Story.

Gin takes centre stage here, so we’re taking this evening up several notches from the warm glasses of Pinot Grigio or the vats of Stella you used to quaff. Who’s for an Espresso Martini?

So here’s what you need to do…

  1. Book the babysitter – the date is Thurs 1 March and you might as well make the most of it and get there when it all kicks off at 7.30pm. Carriages at 1am.
  2. Gather your gal pals, or ramp up date night and take the Mister.
  3. Plan your outfit – and go glam!
  4. Book a taxi, or drive if you must (there is parking in the civic car park, just behind Hummings Bar).
  5. Arrive, order cocktail.
  6. Order another, then another
  7. Get onto the dance floor.
  8. Have one for the road.
  9. Call a taxi.
  10. Down a pint of water and a couple of paracetamol – and sleep!

Throwback Thursday is at Hummings Lounge, 51A High Street, Esher on Thur 15 Mar, from 7.30pm-1am.  Tickets are £10 per person and include a glass of fizz when you arrive.
