Teepees by the Thames

A unique riverside dining experience has popped up at The Lensbury, the family-friendly resort on the banks of the River Thames in Teddington. The Teepees by the Thames offer guests and hotel visitors the chance for private dining in a luxury teepee filled with cushions, candles, blanket and bunting. Private use of a teepee is available in two time slots – from 12noon-3pm or 6pm-9pm – for between four and eight guests. You can order from the Teepee menu which includes family faves like fish and chips, the Lensbury beef burger and homemade pizzas. Or, go for a private BBQ experience cooked by one of The Lensbury chefs – no need to worry about burnt sausages! The Lensbury is a hotel and leisure club, so as well as the option to stay the night, there’s also a sports centre that includes 22 tennis and squash courts, a water sports centre for kayaking, rowing and boating, plus a gym and indoor pool.

Soho House riverside pop up

Fashionably late to the party, but while we’re talking about riverside pop-up – here’s another one! This one from Soho House in Windsor. The Summer River House at Oakley Court is open to Soho House members only. To gain access to the cool riverside seating areas, day beds and tented restaurant you’ll need to hunt down a card-carrying fashionable friend – new memberships are currently frozen with a 12-month waiting list. By all accounts The Summer River House has been such a success it could become a permanent fixture. If you’re not a member, or no anyone who is, you’ll have to make do gawping across the velvet rope. That said, Oakley Court is pretty stylish hangout in its own right.

Surrey glamping

Fancy a glamping experience on the Hatchlands Park Estate? Now’s your chance, thanks to Hammonds Glamping. This brand new glamping site has just opened up within the National Trust site. Choose from a standard or deluxe luxury bell tent. The deluxe comes fully furnished with beds and bedding for up to six people. The standard comes ready pitched for up to five people, just add airbeds and sleeping bags for an easy camping experience. There’s an amenity block on site, and BBQs are provided. And dogs are welcome too. Hammonds Camping guests get full complementary access to the 400-acre Hatchlands estate and gardens – so there’s plenty to do.

The Living Room Cinema

Big news just across the Hants border in Liphook with the impending launch of a brand new independent 60-seat cinema. Work is currently underway to transform the former Anchor garage – originally built as a car showroom – into The Living Room Cinema, with an expected launch in early 2022. It will be the first purpose-built cinema in the area sine the closure of The Rex in Haslemere way back in 1986. So what can we expect from the new cinema? As well as showing new-release and quality films in intimate surroundings, there will be a space for socialising over coffee or cocktails, and as the name suggests it’s going for a home-from-home vibe. There will also be a multi-use event space in the foyer. Roll on 2022 – we can’t wait!
