It’s no secret that we at Muddy love our local independent businesses – so here’s shout-out to the brilliant independent Surrey businesses who are open for business or doing something new to tackle lockdown.

Tandem Catering, a family-run catering company based in Godalming are supplying ready-made frozen meals. The range changes monthly and is available for collection from Taurus Wines in Bramley, or free delivery with a wine order.
Gardeners ahoy! The Botanical Company, based at Whipley Manor Farm in Brambley, may be closed for floral arrangements, but they’ve managed to get hold of some beautiful outdoor plants including hydrangea, lavender and clematis plants, and bags of compost. Delivery is available to local Dunsfold, Cranleigh, Godalming and Guildford area from £5 – but only while stocks last. Contact owner Liz on email@example.com.
The Maths Mum has turned into super mum – and we should all be grateful for that! As well as home-schooling her own three kids, founder Karen McGuigan has created maths workbooks, video tutorials and resources for parents of primary age children. Barnett Hill Hotel, Guildford – Offering a click-and-collect grocery service on a range of goodies including meats, fish, dairy, wines, spirits and household goods. Frozen ready meals are also available. Collection is Tues, Thurs and Sat.
The Cricketers on the Green in Pirbright have non-profit essential grocery boxes available from the car park. Delivery can be organised for anyone who will struggle to collect. The boxes are designed for two or four people and include essential groceries like milk, bread, cheese, fresh fruit and vegetables, with contents varying depending on what’s available. A box for two people costs £30 and for four people, £60. Takeaway pizzas are also available on the green on a Friday and Saturday night. Order online.
Melissa Advanced Skin Therapy in Dorking is offering online consultations for anyone struggling with their skin. Clients will also have access to the AlumierMD portal, so Melissa can recommend products and clients can purchase for direct home delivery.
Courtyard Boutique in Guildford – the boutique is closed, but there’s a wonderful selection of new season fashion available via the online store.
Two Ducks the Muddy-award winning gorgeous lifestyle store in St John’s near Woking has expanded the online offering with a free delivery service in the Woking area. Deliveries are made every Friday afternoon. You’ll find a lovely selection of fashion, accessories, homewares and gifts, including plants and seeds.
Naturally Thinking, which makes aromatherapy and skincare products using natural ingredients grown organically on a farm in Surrey has donated a big box of handwash, body wash, hand creams and lip balms to the NHS. They’ve also added a 60% alcohol gel sanitiser to its range of goodies. Delivery is free in the UK if you spend more than £50.
Sacha Boxall Interiors is still working – making beautiful soft furnishings at either he studio in Horsell or her home studio. Consultations are via via video calls using Zoom, FaceTime or WhatsApp. Her sewing classes have been put on hold, but Sacha has put together free online tutorials on how to make scrub bags for the NHS. The brilliant wine merchant Taurus Wines has closed its Bramley store for the moment – but you can order online or opt for contactless collection from a point outside the store. Happily, they’ve created a ‘Self-isolation case of wine for £149.99 which includes 10 bottles of wine and a half-bottle of Champagne, plus tasting notes on all of your wines, a Bordeaux or Champagne-themed jigsaw (worth £20) and a Taurus Wines crossword and wordsearch! And there’s free UK delivery.
Albury Organic Vineyard has teamed up with Mandira’s Kitchen to produce a special food and wine package of home-cooked Indian freezer meals and Albury wine. It’s available for collection or delivery. Lavender Catering are working around the clock to make 3,500 meals a week to feed NHS staff on the frontline. Teaming up with other local Surrey Hills businesses such as Hill House Farm they are supplying high quality meals using local produce from the Surrey Hills.
Puremess is has put together the Puremess NHS Hygge Bundle, special care gift box of their wonderful chemical free skin care products at 50% reduced price enabling people to pay online and send to an NHS worker.
The Cookie Bar, a social enterprise which supports training for disadvantaged young people, are sending boxes of cookies to local hospitals supported by donations from people ordering on-line. These packages are not only practical but also offer a clear message of support and regard for our frontline workers.
PlantPassion who grow seasonal, scented and sustainable flowers in the Surrey Hills are delivering flowers to their local community.

To celebrate Surrey Day on Sat 2 May, Hill House Farm is collaborating with other local producers to create special gift vouchers you can purchase and send to family and friends including a ‘Surrey breakfast in bed’, a ‘Surrey lunch’, a ‘Surrey afternoon tea’ and a ‘Surrey BBQ’, all from local sustainable producers using carbon neutral couriers and recycled packaging.
