Superflashy newsflash

Piping hot news coming atcha! This month: cool new foodie openings, Sir Richard Branson's childhood Surrey home up for sale, and where The Crown was filmed in Surrey.

Coppa Club in Cobham

We’re counting down the days until the Coppa Club opens in Cobham, and – YIPPEE – we have a date. Take note! This trendy bar, restaurant and lounge is finally opening in Surrey on Wed 9 Dec. And we’re giving away three fabulous igloo experiences for Muddy readers. Click here to enter. Famed for it’s chic and cosy igloo pods Coppa Club is already in London, Brighton, Berkshire and Oxfordshire, and while each Club is different in look, they each have the same relaxed luxe vibe with bars and restaurants to catch up with friends, work quietly or slouch resplendently. Coppa Club Cobham comes to us with contemporary interiors set out over two floors that includes a roof top terrace, and it’s here you’ll find five of the much-loved signature igloos complete with heated flooring, their own sound systems, luxe blankets and floristry inspired by the vineyards of Champagne. Oh la la. I, for one, can’t wait!

The Crown filmed in Surrey

The Crown - season 4 - filmed at Brooklands Museum, Weybridge, Surrey. Emma Corrin.

It’s the TV series we’ve all been waiting on – and, frankly, it couldn’t have come at a better time. The fourth instalment of Netflix’s superb Royal drama finally arrives this Sunday. THIS SUNDAY, people. And as well as the entry of Lady Diana Spencer (played by Emma Corrin), we’ll also cross paths with the Iron Lady, played by Gillian Anderson (fun fact, she’s dating The Crown creator Peter Morgan). But the most exciting cameo of all, will be that of the Brooklands Concorde at the Brookland’s Museum in Weybridge. The filming of scenes recreating Princess Diana’s first official trip from Heathrow to New York in 1989, without Prince Charles, finished in March. Princess Diana is seen in one shot, boarding Concorde and waving to supporters, and in another scene she is seen taking her seat alone for the 3-hour supersonic flight across the Atlantic. The scenes are in the final two episodes of the 10-episode series. Brooklands Museum is closed due to Lockdown 2.0, but will re-open in December.

If you’ve got a cool £4 mil just hanging around, you might be interested to know that Tanyards Farm – the Shamley Green home where Sir Richard Branson lived as a child – is up for sale. This is the house where the Virgin Group founder had his first entrepreneurial endeavours, selling Christmas trees and budgies as a teenager. The four-bedroom red-brick farmhouse is set on 1.4 acres is full of character with beamed ceilings and period fireplaces. It’s for sale by Sotheby’s International Realty.

New pub alert

The Bailiwick Pub in Englefield Green has been saved from closure thanks to chef Steven Ellis and restauranteur Ratnesh Bagdai. The pair have teamed up to take on the pub – which is a stone’s throw from Great Windsor Park – to create a top gastropub. There are also plans for an ‘At Home’ service. Steven Ellis was at the Oxford Blue in Old Windsor which closed down earlier this year.

Coffee at Two Ducks

Lovers of coffee and cake, listen up. The fabulous Two Ducks lifestyle boutique in St John’s near Woking is now selling gourmet coffee and cake, and hosting fab workshops. The workshops are on hold for the moment – blame lockdown v2 – but will be up and running again in time for Christmas with wreath-making and candlemaking workshops already planned. And if you fancy a fabulous coffee and homemade cake, Two Ducks is open for takeaways (as well as click-and collect).

Cycle Surrey

Surrey has long been a favoured spot for cyclists – from near and far- keen to tackle the Surrey Hills while surrounded by stunningly beautiful countryside. So it’s rather cool that one of our favourite country inns is now offering guided cycling experiences for their guests with routes from the front door, on and off road including the well ridden Devils Punchbowl and Box Hill. The Merry Harriers’ experience includes a two-night stay with a hearty cooked breakfast and a three-course dinner on one night of your stay, plus bike hire options through Surrey Hill Cycles.
