Superflashy Newsflash

Girl power!

Gather up you gal pals, mums, daughters, sisters and grannies – because it’s time to celebrate the power and passion of women! It’s the annual #March4Women rally on Sun 8 March – organised by charity CARE International, and this year part of the WOW Festival (that’s Women of the World) at the Royal Festival Hall in London. This year’s march and rally will call for action on the double injustice of climate change and gender inequality. Some pretty impressive women will be there including singers Emeli Sandé and RAYE who will perform, as well as equality campaigner Helen Pankhurst, Bianca Jagger, Dr Shola Mos-Shogbamimu and poet Nikita Gill who will all say a few words. Let’s be inspired, let’s stand together and let’s march for women. Hope to see you there!

Sassy new look

There’s not shortage of places to eat, drink and be merry at the Runnymede on Thames with two restaurants, riverside terraces and private dining pods. But we’re rather taken with The Lounge, which has just had a sassy new makeover and is looking pretty polished with new retro styling. With a freestanding woodburning stove in the centre of the space, plus floor-to-ceiling views of the river, there’s a wonderful collection of mid-century armchairs, sofas and seats to cosy up for a drinks and a light bite. Artisan wine specialists SWIG (Serious Wine Imbibers Group) are also now offering up a selection of their wines from top quality, small family owned wineries around the world. You’ll find Muddy on that squashy velvet sofa by the fire with a bottle of New World Sauv Blanc on the table in front, and a large glass in hand. Cheers.

Rambler’s revamp

And while we’re taking about revamps – have you checked out the Rambler’s Rest in Chipstead near Coulsdon? A brand new interiors makeover has totally revived this old girl and she’s looking pretty foxy – plush velvet chairs and banquet seating, interesting artwork and mirrors,  warm earthy colours and deep blues and greens on the walls and some of the most insta-worthy light fittings I’ve seen for a while. A whole new management team has also been installed – plus a new chef. And with brilliant walks nearby (and dogs welcome in the pub), it’s one to add to the list.

Musical nostalgia

Who remembers Lighthouse Family? Lifted, High, Loving Every Minute? One of the biggest British bands of the 90s is performing at this year’s Hampton Court Palace Festival and tickets are on sale now – so go go go! They will take to the stage on Saturday 6 June in the 3,000-seat auditorium in Base Court, set against the backdrop of Henry VIII’s magnificent Tudor Palace. Other acts include Bastille, Rick Astley, Tom Jones, Lionel Richie, George Benson, Bjorn Again and Dido.

Health and Wellbeing in Dorking

Surrey Hills Physiotherapy are opening a new Health and Wellbeing Centre in Spring 2020 – and it’s going to look pretty spiffy. It is set to be housed in a newly-converted bespoke barn overlooking the rolling hills of the Denbies Wine Estate, adjacent to England’s first carbon neutral Vineyard Hotel.

In addition to the well-established clinic led by consultant physiotherapist Dr Massimo Barcellona, SHP is developing its services to include women’s health physiotherapy, massage and reflexology. The high-ceilinged open plan studio will offer an expanded range of classes including yoga, tai chi and meditation, alongside the already popular variety of Pilates classes. Sign us up.

Expanded school space

Small children running in the playground

Good news for parents of little ones: Reigate St Mary’s is extended its capacity by adding extra classes for Year 3 pupils in September 2020. For more details on the announcement and admissions advice, contact admissions secretary Marie Goddard at
