Movers, groovers and gossipers, listen up: from foodie openings including a new Coppa Club coming to Haslemere, here’s all the hottest news in Surrey.
Fashion lovers listen up! A new pre-loved designer fashion boutique has opened in Guildford, on the corner of Castle and Chapel streets. Expect to to find the likes of Chanel, Alexander McQueen, Burberry and Jenny Packham. The boutique is the brainchild of Kim Collins, who moved to Guildford 10 years ago, and is passionate about promoting sustainable fashion. She’s had a long career in fashion – working in London and Sydney – for luxury brands like Louis Vuitton, Versace, and Dolce & Gabbana. Misty and Claridge is open Wednesday to Saturday from 10.30am-5.30pm.
Luciano Pierre White, son of Marco, has opened a restaurant in Woking – the third in his portfolio of casual Italian eateries. The restaurant has taken over the space that was formerly Carluccio’s in Commercial Way (right next door to Gordon Ramsay’s Street Burger restaurant), and joins Luciano’s in Dorchester and the newly opened Luciano’s in Exeter. The menu centres on classically prepared hearty Italian food, using fresh local produce and Italian suppliers for authentic flavours.
Meanwhile, Woking has also seen the recent opening of Island House, a family owned restaurant and bar in Jubilee Square offering all-day day dining as well as an extensive cocktail and drinks menu. This is the second in the Island House stable joining sister restaurant Island House Reigate which opened mid 2020. Food has global influences – think sashimi, rice bowls, tacos and burgers.
Coppa Club, Haslemere
Ding dong! Good news for fans of the Coppa Club which is coming to Haslemere in April. The Coppa Club is taking over The Georgian Hotel, creating a restaurant and boutique hotel with 14 luxury bedrooms. This is the 10th restaurant in the Coppa Club group and the second in Surrey following the opening of Coppa Club in Cobham last year.
Dolce and Salato, Guildford
If you’ve cut out carbs or you’re trying to go sugar-free – avert your eyes now. But for everyone else, you’ll want to know about Dolce and Salato, a new Italian pizzeria, coffee shop and bakery in Guildford. We’re told the pizzas are the best you’ll get outside Naples. You’ll find them what was formerly Top Table in upper High Street, Guildford.
Coming soon to Guildford – opening in the former Burger King site in North Street – is Black Sheep Coffee, the cool urban coffee house which has a mission to ‘beat boring coffee’. Serving coffee made from 100% speciality grade Robusta beans, alongside smoothies and Norwegian waffles, the brand are also widely known for their sustainable and environmentally friendly policies which includes no single-use plastics. They’re also one of very few coffee retailers who purchase their beans directly from the plantations.
While where still in Guildford, another opening coming this month in the form of Itsu, the East Asian inspired fast food chain. The opening day is Fri 21 January – call in between 12noon and 1pm and get a free box of sushi or salad. It’s on the corner of North Street and Market Street.
It’s finally open! Fairmont Windsor Park – sister hotel to The Savoy in London – opened its doors on 1 Jan. It’s a luxurious crash pad with 200 bedrooms, a two-storey £140m spa and not one but four restaurants. There’s emphasis here to relax, recharge and nurture your wellbeing. Enjoy fine dining at 1215, afternoon tea in the Orchid Tea Room, middle eastern morsels at MOREish and Greens is the spa café that puts your wellness and culinary needs as a top priority. You’ll find shuffling around in a waffle robe on repeat.
A new arts centre is opening in Epsom this spring hosting arts classes and workshops, live performances, exhibitions and fairs. The Horton has been six years in the making – a former former derelict chapel brought back to life. The former chapel was once part of Epsom’s historic 1000-acre psychiatric hospital site, and until 1997 offered a place of worship for people experiencing mental distress. It was also used as a music therapy centre. At Christmas The Horton had a trial run staging a one-off classical concert and a festive show called the Elf Factory.

Brooklands Museum on TV
Brooklands Museum returns to our TV screens early next month in the series Secrets of the Transport Museum. The first 10-episode series, produced for UKTV and filmed Brooklands Museum near Weybridge, brought to life the stories of the pioneers at the birthplace of British motorsport and aviation. The series starts on Tues 1 Feb on UKTV’s Yesterday channel.
