Superflashy newsflash! Read all about it

Pssst! The latest, greatest happenings in Surrey from Michelin-starred supper clubs to new openings and cool celebrity facials.

Michelin-starred pop-up

Calling all foodies! Michelin star chef Jitin Joshi is preparing for a one-night take-over at The Victoria in Oxshott on Thurs 21 April. Joshi’s pedigree CV includes names like Gordon Ramsay’s Maze, Benares, Gymkhana and Taj Hotels – so this is pretty exciting stuff. Guests will enjoy a 6-course menu that includes puffed wild rice bhel and avocado or salmon chartlet, followed by torched scallops with Kerala coconut sauce and pickled chilli. Larger plates include curry leaf mackerel and burnt tomato relish; charred venison kebabs with pickled mooli and basil chutney; and spiced rubbed wagyu short rib and turmeric-mustard potato. A Gulabjamun brioche pudding with rasmalai custard and peanut ice cream completes the meal. Cost is £75 per person. Bookings here.

Super sonic non-surgical facelift

Big news from Dorking’s Mayflower Spa, who are now offering treatments by CACI, the wonder brand beloved of many a celeb including Madonna, Jennifer Lopez and Linda Evangelista, to name just a few. The new CACI offering will include the CACI Synergy treatments, a super advanced facial treatment, and fabulous if you want results without injections or surgery. It’s not called the non-surgical facelift for nothing. The official CACI launch at Mayflower Spa is next week, but bookings have already opened.

White Horse

A new chapter for Muddy favourite and winner of many a Muddy Award (two times Best Restaurant and three times winner of Best Destination Pub) The White Horse in Hascombe, which is changing ownership and joining the Youngs stable of pubs. The pub was bought by village residents Paul and Sorrel Morganti back in 2017 to save it from development, and after a complete makeover, the pub has firmly established itself as an exciting destination pub with a loyal bunch of local regulars as well as guests travelling in from further afield particularly day-trippers from London. But while we’re all sad to see Paul and Sorrel move on, the good news is The White Horse management team are staying put – including head chef Valentino Gentile.

The Georgian, Coppa Club

Set your alarms people, the countdown is on! The Georgian Coppa Club – Surrey’s hotly-anticipated new boutique hotel swings it’s doors open on Tues 26 April after a launch event on Sun 24 April. The 10th restaurant in the Coppa Club family, and the second in Surrey following the opening of Coppa Club in Cobham last year, The Georgian in Haslemere will be the third Coppa hotel – offering 13 boutique bedrooms. There’s also a bright bar, café and a lounge, plus a restaurant that opens onto an outdoor terrace overlooking the lawns which play host to Coppa’s iconic igloos. There’s also a wonderful private dining space which is available from morning to night.

The traditional Grade II-listed building is rich in architectural heritage which has inspired the design. It’s a gorgeous mix of traditional and contemporary styling, blending interiors that nod to the history of the building while also introducing modern touches – think patterned flooring, strong deep colours and Bonbon lanterns to create an atmospheric glow.

Gladwin Brothers move into Wimbledon

Last year they moved into Richmond, this year it’s the turn of Wimbledon. The Gladwin Brothers, the trio responsible for London-based restaurants Rabbit, The Shed, Sussex and Nutbourne, are opening a new restaurant in Wimbledon Village, called The Black Sheep. They’ll be taking over the space that was previously home to much loved French restaurant The White Onion, which sadly announced its closure last week. If you’re new to the Gladwin story, they are three brothers – a farmer, a chef and a restauranteur – who launched their business concept, Local & Wild, 10 years ago with a firm commitment to seasonality, provenance, people and sustainability. There’s also a family vineyard in Nutbourne, East Sussex. The Black Sheep is due to open in May.
